Bullarum Communium Lib. LVI. Tom. LXI.
10 Sixtus IV.
1480. 17 Kal. Jan. (16 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 4v.) |
To the archdeacon of Tuam, and David Omurid and Edmund de Stantona, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Eamon (Ermannus) de Stantona, clerk, of the diocese of Tuam, that Edmund de Stantona, abbot of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (de Fonte Sancti Patritii), O.S.A., in the said diocese, possesses private property, (fn. 1) allows the canons to live apart and likewise posses private property, (fn. 2) does not reside in the said monastery, has received a certain man as a canon for a money payment, thereby incurring simony, etc., and, being unlearned, does not pray nor celebrate. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if Eamon will accuse Edmund before them, to summon him, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to cause Eamon to be received as a canon of the said monastery, receive his profession, and made provision to him of the said monastery, value 30 marks sterling; with grant hereby that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop in communion with the apostolic see, without prejudice to the archbishop of Tuam. Sollicite considerationis. (In the margin: Januarii.) [5 pp.] |

10 Sixtus IV.
Prid. Id. Dec. (12 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 200r.) |
To John Occarnayd, John Oculcain (? recte Oculeain), and David Omurid, canons of Tuam. Mandate (the pope having learned that Malachy Oronain, a canon of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (de Fonte Sancti Patritii), O.S.A., in the diocese of Tuam, has resigned the perpetual vicarage of Omi in the said diocese), to collate and assign it, value 3 marks sterling, to Hubert (Hobertus) de Stantona, clerk, of the diocese of Tuam, who alleges that John Macineruli (fn. 3) (?) has without any title detained it for between two and three years since the said resignation, and who was dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illigitimacy, as the son of unmarried parents, to be made a clerk, after which he was made a clerk; admitting the said resignation, and summoning and removing the said John. Hubert is hereby dispensed to be promoted to all holy, even priest's orders, and hold the said vicarage, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite etc. (Gratis pro deo, quia juravit. In the margin: Januarii.) [4 pp.] |

19 Kal. Jan. (14 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 204v.) |
To John Macgillanath, Odo Otyarnayd, and John Odunna, canons of Annaghdown. Mandate to collate and assign to Walter Blake, a canon of Annaghdown (to whom provision has been made or ordered to be made by papal authority of the perpetual vicarage of the town of Galwie, in the said diocese, value 8 marks sterling, of which he is not in possession) the chapel of St. Mary without the walls of the said town, with cure and value 6 marks sterling, wont to be held by canons of Holy Trinity, Tuam, O. Prem., so long void that there is no certain knowledge of the mode of its voidance, and that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see. He is hereby dispensed to receive it, and hold it with the said vicarage, if he obtain it. Vite etc. (In the margin: Jan.) [3 pp. See above, p. 90.] |
Prid. Non Dec. (4 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 225r.) |
To the dean of Cloyne (Clonen.). Mandate, as below. The pope lately, on learning that a canonry of Elphin and the prebend of Fygurth alias de Killeconmota therein had been so long void by the death of John Macgyllaroyd that its collation had lapsed to the apostolic see (although Dermit Offlanagan, canon of the said church, had unlawfully detained them without any title for between one and two years), ordered (by letters in which it was stated that the said Dermit had detained the said canonry and prebend without any title) provision to be made to Charles Offalluyn, clerk, of the diocese of Elphin, who alleged that notwithstanding his illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, he had been made a clerk by authority of the ordinary. The recent petition of the said Charles contained that after the said letters had been presented to the executor thereof, and after litigation between him and Dermit, he obtained the said canonry and prebend, and is now in possession; and added that he fears lest the said letters may be held surreptitious because, as is alleged, Dermit held the said canonry and prebend, not without any title, but with a sort of coloured title, although not a canonical one. The pope has also learned that the perpetual vicarage of Teatby in the said diocese is void by the death without the Roman court of Cornelius Odoelan. He therefore hereby grants to the said Charles (whom by the said letters the pope dispensed to be promoted to all, even holy orders, and to receive and hold the said canonry and prebend, if collated to him in virtue of the said letters, notwithstanding the said defect, etc.) that the said letters and their consequences shall hold good, notwithstanding the said mis-statement; and further orders the above dean to collate and assign the said vicarage, with cure and value 5 marks sterling, to Charles, who is hereby dispensed to receive and hold it, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Dignum arbitramur. (In the margin: Jan.) [5 pp.] |
1480[–1]. Id. Jan. (13 Jan.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 282r.) |
To the archdeacon of Annaghdown, and Thady and Dermit Oflayrt, (fn. 4) canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the monastery of St. Mary, Knockmoy (Collis victorie), O. Cist., in the diocese of Tuam, is void by the death without the Roman court of William de Burgo, although John de Burgo, the younger, under pretext of an election made at his own suggestion and that of his father and other friends, when he was a secular clerk, but after he had been received as a monk of the said monastery, detains it without any papal provision. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to grant in commendam to John de Burgo, the elder, a canon of Tuam, who is of a race of earls and barons, the said monastery, value 50 marks sterling, for four years, and moreover, after the lapse of the said four years, to cause him to be received as a monk of the monastery and the habit to be given to him, and receive his profession, and thereupon make him provision of the monastery. As soon as he has been received as a monk, has been given the habit, and has made his profession, he is to resign all his benefices. Romanus pontifex. (In the margin: Januarii.) [4¼ pp.] |
