setting forth that the coast and Channel are very
much infested by French privateers whereby the
Virginia ships and the wine ships which lately put
into the Western ports and other ships coming
through the Channel (which pay considerably to
the revenue) are in great danger. It is hereby ordered
that said Commissioners be informed that there are
six frigates cruising in the Soundings, three or four
between the Isle of Wight and the islands of Jersey
and Guernsey, and that there are some of his
Majesty's frigates cruising between Calais and the
South Foreland. |

Tax for the thirty ships [29 Car. II, c. 1] and the

of London of 1,471l. 10s. 5d., of which 299l. 3s. 0¾d.
remains yet unpaid. A re-assessment has been

an allowance of 2d. in the £ for them. Consequently
the Treasury Lords cannot meddle therewith.
"But if the allowance appear to be too small my
Lords will make such further allowance to the
Receiver of your county upon the making up of
his accounts as shall be found reasonable." |

that the [Exchequer] officers have demanded 6s. 8d.
for every sum [tally] of money which you have
paid into the Exchequer upon account of the present
Aid, I am to tell you that the Exchequer fees are
but 3s. for every tally. If you have paid more
my Lords will see right done you. My Lords
would not have you depend on me to draw bills
on you for the money in your hands, but desire you
to take care to return it into the Exchequer with
