Appending : (a) Order of the King in Council, dated Hampton Court, May 30 last, made upon reading a presentment from the Customs Commissioners setting forth that the coast and Channel are very much infested by French privateers whereby the Virginia ships and the wine ships which lately put into the Western ports and other ships coming through the Channel (which pay considerably to the revenue) are in great danger. It is hereby ordered that said Commissioners be informed that there are six frigates cruising in the Soundings, three or four between the Isle of Wight and the islands of Jersey and Guernsey, and that there are some of his Majesty's frigates cruising between Calais and the South Foreland.

Treasury warrant to same to observe an Order of the King in Council, dated Whitehall May 30 ult., to give permission to any ship which was in any port of the islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark or the Isle of Man within the time fixed by the Proclamation of the 18th inst. May (which prohibited the importation or retailing of any commodities of the growth or manufacture of France) to import into England or Wales on payment of the usual duties such [of the said] commodities as had been already imported to said islands and there lodged and detained for want of conveyance hither by reason of the present disturbance of affairs.
[Other than as above] the said Proclamation is also hereby to be put in execution by prosecuting goods imported contrary thereto : the Customs Commissioners having expressed a doubt whether an information will lie on the said Proclamation ; on which doubt the King has taken the advice of his learned counsel.

Royal warrant to the Clerk of the Signet for a privy seal for 50,000l. to Richard, Lord Coote, of Colooney, Treasurer to the Queen : as imprest for the service of the Queen. King's Warrant Book XIV, p. 121.

The Treasury Lords to the Commissioners of the Great Seal. You scruple to pass the grant to Col. Berkeley and Mr. Walters of the office of one of the two searchers at Gravesend because of their power to act by deputy. The patents of this nature usually pass with this clause and in the member ports the service requires such deputies "and Gravesend being no other than a member of the port of London, where deputies have often been appointed, we desire that such deputies as this Board shall approve of may be authorized to act as hath been usually practised in the like cases.
