William Lowndes to the Navy Commissioners to apply to the ordinary of the Navy 7000l. remaining in the hands of the Navy Treasurer by the disposition of tallies and orders on the Land Tax anno 1704, and 1000l. out of the moneys in said Treasurer's hands arisen by the sale of decayed stores. Letter of direction for 1000l. to Charles Fox : out of the money of the Additional 25 per cent. on French goods : and is to be on account of alliances with Savoy and to be paid over in satisfaction of a bill of exchange drawn for that value by Richard Hill, her Majesty's Envoy in Savoy, for special service relating to the war. Prefixing : (a) order of the Queen in Council dated St. James's Aug 3 inst. for paying to Andrew Seile, master of the Prince of Orange, and the said ship's Company nine tenths of the value of the English ship Mary : the said Seile being in passage to Newfoundland under convoy of the Canterbury when they met a French privateer of 18 guns which had taken a merchant ship of London called the Mary and the Canterbury pursued and took the said privateer, and the petitioner chased and retook the ship Mary and carried her to Newfoundland and she has since been decreed to be restored to her owners, the salvage being adjudged to be 278l. 6s. 3d. Mr. Thurston, agent to the Company [of Foot] at Newfoundland, has by memorial to the Board of Trade represented that the Coventry man of war (carrying the money for a year's subsistence for said Company) is taken and carried into Brest and that there is danger of losing the provision ship going thither. Please report on his proposals enclosed [missing] for preventing any inconveniences that may happen for want of the said subsistence money and provisions. Ibid.

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Postmasters General to discharge Ann Jones, widow of Hugh Jones, and Josias Sewell of the debt of 20l. 1s. 8d. due to the Crown from Joseph Ward, a letter carrier deceased for whom they were sureties. Warrants not Relating to Money XVIII, p. 330.
Same by same to the Stamps Commissioners to appoint William Johns as a distributor of stamped paper for co. Devon and Exeter city in like manner as Benjamin Robins is : it being the Lord Treasurer's intention that they should be equally employed, whereas Robins was so appointed but Johns was only appointed for the city of Exeter see supra p. 218. Royal warrant to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland for a new Commission of the Revenue, Ireland, to include Sir John Bland [in the place of Francis Robarts Esq.] : the new Commissioners to be Thomas Keightley, John South, Sir Thomas Southwell, Samuel Ogle, and Thomas Everard as Commissioners for the revenue of Excise ; and they and Henry Jennison [Tennison] and said Bland to be Commissioners of all other revenue. The present Commission (hereby superseded) was to the said Keightley, South, Southwell, Ogle, Everard as Commissioners of Excise : and Francis Robarts and the said Keightley, South, Southwell, Ogle, Everard and Henry Tennison as Commissioners of the Revenue. Same to same to pay an allowance of 50l. a year as from June 24 last to a French Conforming minister, the number of French Protestants being very great and daily increasing in Ireland and there being but one French Conforming Church in Dublin which is insufficient to contain them all : the Queen being graciously disposed to give all due encouragement for the propagation and increase of the Conforming French Congregation in Ireland, and the same being likewise recommended by the archbishop of Dublin. Treasury reference to Mr. Fox and the Comptrollers of Army Accounts of the petition of Capt. John Lowen, late Commander of her Majesty's ship Content, praying an allowance of 8d. a man a day for 7168 men and the like for 562 women which by order he carried to Spithead, alleging he is denied to be allowed above 6d. a day for each man and woman.
