Sir George Rook said at the [Admiralty] Board, but none of

that Littleton should be longer kept out of his share on that score :
and the assistant Solicitor of the Customs having certified the Lord
Treasurer that no information is entered there against the said Capt.

Royal warrant to the Postmasters General to appoint a Deputy
Postmaster at Edinburgh during the term of three years from date
hereof, and no longer ; with a salary of 100l. per an. to be payable
out of the revenue of the Post Office of England : in accordance
with the royal sign manual of 1701-2 Jan. 21 made upon a memorial
from the said Postmasters in Jan. 1701-2 which memorial represented
the many inconveniences they suffered by the Post Renters
[farmers] there running much in arrear for the port of letters sent
from England and the great difficulty of recovering same : whereupon
William III by his said sign manual authorised the appointment of
such a Deputy Postmaster and George Main was thereupon appointed
for three years only, which term is now near expired and the renewal
thereof will be very much to our service.
The Postmasters General are hereby also authorised to defalk
out of the twopences to be received in England for the account of
the Post Renters of Scotland as well the port of the letters and
pacquets of the Secretary of Scotland [sent] upwards to London as
also the riding charges of all flying pacquetts to and from them [the
said Secretary] between the town of Berwick and any part of

on said North's estate to Sir Charles Eyre on his agreement for
payment of North's debt by four yearly instalments : it appearing
by the Customs Commissioners' report of July 22 last that in
said North's petition he sets forth that his father died in Oct. 1697
leaving him a minor under the age of 18 and two years after he was
called upon to pay his father's debts on several bonds near 5000l.
more than ever the whole effects produced and whereof there was no
mention in his father's books : notwithstanding which the said North
(though not obliged) discharged all the said bonds out of the credit
he had obtained by trade and within six years past has paid near
40,000l. for Customs on tobacco and is now only indebted 2300l. to
balance, which he cannot comply with, his reputation being destroyed
by an extent lately issued against him whereby for the future he
will be entirely deprived of his commissions from Virginia that were
his whole subsistence : on which petition the Commissioners report
that Sir Charles Eyre, a gentleman of very good credit, has offered to
give bond to pay said North's debt on terms as above : the debt being
3532l. 1s. 9d. of which Thomas Cary, of London merchant, is bondee
for 766l. 9s. 3d. and that a scire facias was issued and upon
information a commission of bankrupt was out against North and
two immediate extents were taken out, one in Lincolnshire which
seized a freehold estate of 174l. 17s. 0d. per an. the other in London
which seized a debt of 242l. 12s. 6d. due from John Wynne, and that
the freehold estate cannot be sold and the proposed arrangement is
