April 11. Same to Visct. Fitz-Hardinge, Treasurer of the Chamber, to pay Thomas Brand 10l. for writing, flourishing and embellishing partly in gold one skin of vellum and for writing and gilding the superscription "being a letter sent to the King of Persia in answer to his letter to us." William Lowndes to the [Principal] Officers of the Mint for a certificate how much money is due to Henry Harris for seals provided for her Majesty's service as per your report of Feb. 7 last on his petition for same. Out Letters (General) XVII, p. 356.
April 12. Same to the Salt Commissioners. The Lord Treasurer is satisfied that your weekly certificates for the Salt Duties ought to determine on Saturday in each week as the certificates of the Customs do. Please observe this. Ibid., p. 356.
Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of the petition of Charles Goreing praying a reward for giving information to Mr. Wade, Collector of Arundel port, for surprising smugglers at Steyning whereby he seized silks to the value of 4000l. Reference Book VIII, p. 98.
Same to same of the petition of Nathaniel Rous and others, owners of the ship Thomas and Phoebe, shewing that she was built in Pennsylvania and registered in London which register was lost, whereupon they obtained a letter from the Customs Commissioners directed to their officers in the West Indies (whither she was bound) to permit her to trade as a registered ship : yet Col. Codrington has seized her : therefore praying redress. Ibid.

William Lowndes to the Attorney General to report on the enclosed draft [missing] of a warrant for rectifying misnomers or literal mistakes at the Exchequer relating to the contributors for the purchase of Annuities on the late Act of Parliament [2-3 Anne c. 3]. Letter of direction for 67l. 15s. 0d. to the Navy Treasurer : out of the 25 per cent. on French goods : and is to make good the like sum paid 1691 April 4 by Andrew Huddleston, who was then Collector of Customs at Whitehaven, to the order of the late Lord Lonsdale for procuring seamen according to the Proclamation. William Lowndes to the Customs Commissioners. The Lord Treasurer agrees with your report of the 13th inst. on the petition of Mr. Huddleston, formerly Collector of Whitehaven port, and has directed 67l. 15s. 0d. ut supra to be issued to the Navy Treasurer to make good Huddleston's account. Same to Auditor Bridges to report on and make a state of the enclosed account [missing] exhibited to him by Richard Crawley of moneys come to his hands for salvage and other perquisites of Admiralty between 1703 March 25 and 1704 March 25. Ibid., p. 357.
Same to Mr. Burchett. The Lord Treasurer has no objection to taking off the stop on the freight of the Jacob transport ship, John Smith commander, he having cleared himself concerning the goods put on board her at Port St. Marys by several of her officers then there. Ibid.
Same to the Principal Officers of the Ordnance enclosing an account [missing] of the Ordnance stores shipped on board the men of war under Sir Cloudesley Shovell and which at his return from the Straits in 1703 he ordered to be delivered by the Captains of the ships to the storekeepers of the Ordnance at such ports where they should first arrive. Have the said stores been returned accordingly? Ibid.
William Lowndes to the Prizes Commissioners. Since the Revenge privateer, which was intended to be given to Jeronimo Bestoso, is under a claim before the Lords of Appeal you are to buy instead the St. Lewis of Nantes (when she shall be exposed to sale) which is another ship that Bestoso is inclinable to have ; she being already condemned and appraised. Same to the Victualling Commissioners to pass such of the bills of the workmen belonging to the Victualling Office at Tower Hill for work done to the dwelling houses and store houses at the said Office and the Hartshorne Brewery from 1699 Aug. 16 to 1702 Dec. 31 (amounting in all to 2491l. 7s. 8d.) as have been certified by the respective Victualling Commissioners under whom same were performed. Same to Secretary Hedges. In case it be the Queen's pleasure to grant letters of Denization to Ferdinand Silva and others the Lord Treasurer thinks a clause should be inserted therein as proposed by the Customs Commissioners viz. that they should continue to pay such rates and other Duties as merchant strangers are subject to. Money warrant for 160l. to John Manley, Steward of the Stannary Court within the County of Cornwall, 100l. thereof as an encouragement from the Queen towards printing the laws of the Stannary Parliaments for the counties of Cornwall and Devon "of which the said John Manley is to have the inspection and care" and the remaining 60l. for the charge of repairing and making fit for use the Court House and Prison within the Castle of Trematon in co. Appending : (a) extract of a report from the Surveyor General of Crown Lands, the Surveyor General of Woods Trent South and C. Newton, one of the Purveyors of the Navy, dated March 30 last upon a late survey taken by them of the timber and trees in Rockingham Forest, complaining of the malpractice of lopping of boughs and fellings by order of the present Countess or the late Earl of Westmorland and of the claim of the Earl of Westmorland to cut scantlings of under 10 inches square in Morton Sale by virtue of the grant of the underwood and soil of these coppices from the Crown. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Customs Commissioners to employ Oliver Newby (for some time deputy Comptroller at Welburnham [Wells Burnham] in Norfolk) as collector, waiter and searcher at Aldeburgh and to act as deputy to the Customer and searcher of Yarmouth for their fees at Aldeburgh or 20l. per an. from each of them and 10l. per an. from the Queen : all loco John Knackston preferred.

Same by same to the Queen's Remembrancer for stay of process against William Green, late Receiver of Taxes for co. Stafford, on his debt of 1740l. to the Queen on account of the Duty on Houses, he having sustained great losses in the returns of his moneys, without any default in him. Ibid., p. 217.
Same by same to the Salt Commissioners to forbear further process against Capt. Thomas Kempthorne for foreign salt imported in the Vulture fireship of which he was Commander, same being seized for non-entry : he having found the salt on board on taking command of the ship and having made no attempt to run or conceal it.
