Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Excise Commissioners to release from prison by supersedeas George Murray and his sureties as late a collector of Excise and malt and leather Duties on his paying 445l. 7s. 6¾d. towards the balance of 3399l. 12s. 6d. owing from him on three accounts of said Duties, he having fled to Holland but arrested there and brought prisoner to Wood Street Compter, where also Allan Garrett one of his sureties is imprisoned for same. Same to Mr. Blathwaite to prepare a royal warrant to authorise the Earl of Ranelagh to pay the abovesaid 6053l. 2s. 3d. to Sir Stephen Evance and several others who remitted 98,000l. to Holland between 16 Nov. and 16 Dec. last &c. as above : being for their loss and one per cent. commission and charges thereon. [The Treasury warrant as above was sufficient authority for the issue to Ranelagh but a royal warrant was necessary to authorise him to pay it over.] Ibid., p. 137.
Treasury reference to Mr. Borrett of the petition of Edward Stephens and George Tompson praying payment of the several moieties of the sum that Richard Flight and William King of Portsmouth were fined, being 200l. each "for having in their possession 20 fathom of 3 inch rope with a white thread stretched through the same laid the contrary way being the Queen's mark to all her cordage and contrary to the statute in that case" whereof they were convicted at Winchester Assizes 23 July 1700 by the sole evidence of the petitioners herein. Same to same of the petition of Thomas Husband shewing that Horace Boswell alias Staunton (who was indebted to him in 250l.) died a minor intestate being interested only in the reversion of an estate in Shropshire and being a bastard without kin [whereby] the same fell in to the Crown : therefore praying that the reversion may be sold to pay said debt. Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to Sir Edward Northey, Attorney General, to appoint the sum of 661l. 10s. 0d. to be paid to Guy Palmes, late one of the Four Tellers of the Receipt, in accordance with a decree of the Exchequer Court of Feb. 18 last in a cause wherein said Palmes was plaintiff against the Bank of England, Nathaniell Wolfreyes, Mathew Kirwood and Robert Presgrave defendants relating to a Bank note or Cash Bill dated 24 Dec. 1701 No. 280 for the said sum payable to the said Wolfreyes and Kirwood or the said Wolfrys and Company or Bearer which decree ordered the Bank to pay said sum forthwith into the Exchequer : it appearing that upon examination of the cash in the office of the said Palmes at the time of the going off of the said Presgrave (who was his chief clerk) it was found that there was a deficit of 7312l. 5s. 6½d. Same to Mr. Burchet. The Queen takes notice that she is at great charge in the frequent furnishing of yachts, occasioned (as tis supposed) by the Captains taking away the old furniture from time to time as fees or perquisites belonging to themselves. Please represent the same to the Lord High Admiral's Council to the end all Captains may be charged with the goods from time to time received from the Wardrobe for the service of the said yachts.
