Prayers.

Admission of a Member.

ORDERED, That the Earl of Pembroke and Montgomery, being returned Knight of the Shire for the County of Berks, in the room and place of Sir Francis Pyle Baronet, deceased, be admitted into the House.

Letter read.

A Letter from Colonel Deane and Colonel Blake, dated 14 Aprilis, 1649, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Business of the Letter from Colonel Deane and Colonel Blake be taken up at Ten of the Clock.

Admission of a Member.

Mr. Scott reports from the Committee concerning the absent Members, their Satisfaction touching Mr. Martyn.

Ordered, That Mr. Martyn be admitted into the House.

Oxford Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of the Mayor, Aldermen, Bailiffs, and Commonalty, of the City of Oxon, be referred to the Committee for regulating the University of Oxford: With Power to that Committee, to call before them such Persons as the University of Oxford shall appoint on the Behalf; and to hear both them, and the Petitioners; and report their Opinion to the House.

Suits against Members.

Ordered, That the Vote, passed on Saturday last, concerning Proceedings at Law against Members of this House, be forthwith printed and published.

Transporting 11,000£.

Ordered, That Mr. Holland and Mr. Whittacre do forthwith withdraw; and examine the Business touching Eleven thousand Pounds, intended to be transported beyond Sea.

Buying Gold, &c.

Ordered, That the Committee to whom it is referred to prepare an Act touching Buying of Gold, and Transporting of Gold and Silver, do bring in the said Act on Friday Morning next.

Loan by the City.

Mr. Trenchard reports from the Committee appointed to meet with the Persous chosen by the Common Council to treat about borrowing of One hundred and Twenty thousand Pounds, the Issue of that Conference.

Corn and Coals.

Ordered, That the Lord Mayor of the City of London be required to take special Care, forthwith to put the Laws in Execution, for preventing the forestalling and engrossing the Provision of Corn and Coals; and to consider, Where the Obstruction is, that Coals are not brought up into the Pool for Supply of the City; and to redress the same; or certify this House, How the same may be done.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to consider of, and examine, all the Charges and Impositions laid upon Coals; and the Grounds of those Impositions, and report it to the House:

Mr. Garland, Mr. Blakiston, Earl of Pembroke, Mr. Martyn, Mr. Gourdon, Mr. Allen, Sir Arthur Haslerigg, Mr. Trenchard, Alderman Pennington, Lord Grey, Sir Henry Vane senior, Mr. Fenwick, Commissary General Ireton, Mr. Hum. Edwards, Mr. Love, Sir James Harrington, Sir William Masham, Mr. Jams Ashe, Sir Gregory Norton, Colonel Stapeley, Sir Tho. Walsingham, Mr. Luke Hodges, Sir Hen. Myldmay, Mr. Oldsworth; or any Five of them: And this Committee have Power to send for Persons, Papers, &c.: And are to meet on Wednesday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber: And Alderman Penington, and Mr. Garland, are to take care hereof.

Ayloffe's Fine.

Ordered, That the Petition of Sir Benjamin Ayloffe Baronet, this Day presented to the House, be referred to the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall; to examine the Truth of the Case; and to compound with him for his Fine; and to state his whole Case; and report it to the House.

Prizes.

Sir Henry Vane junior reports an Act, declaring the Ground and Causes of making Prize the Ships and Goods that shall be taken, from time to time, by the Parliament Ships at Sea; and for the Encouragement of Officers, Mariners, and Seamen: Which was this Day read the First and Second time.

And the Question being put, That this Act be Committed;

It passed with the Negative.

Ordered, That the said Act be ingrossed.
