5. Receiver's Account 1484–1485

This roll is damaged and incomplete. Returns for Norwell Overall and the Archdeaconry of Nottingham are missing, as are the returns from the estates of Bowes and Polehouse and London. The first, but damaged, return is from Ardleigh. (fn. 1) This return contains the first legible references to the date of this account, viz. 'xv die Junii a[nn]o s[e]c[un]do regni dicti regis' and 'viij die July anno r[egni] r[egis] predicti iij'. (fn. 2) The roll consists of seven sheets, 31 cm wide. The undamaged portion of the first sheet is 15 cm wide and 15 cm long. The remaining sheets are 41–42 cm long.

Paid for the expenses of Roger (1s. 4d.) and of Robert Stykeswolde riding to and from 'Wympill', (fn. 8) over two and a half days, and for the expenses of Thomas Shaa (4d.) going to Eltham on the order of the Dean, 1s. 8d. Paid for his expenses for riding from London to Heybridge in Essex, and remaining there for four days in order to hold a court and receive money for the Dean, 8s. 4d. Paid for the expenses of Master Marke, and of his men and other tenants there, for a court on the Monday before Michaelmas 1484, 7s. 11d. Paid for the fee of Master Marke as steward of Heybridge, 8s. 4d. Paid for expenses and costs incurred for mowing and reaping of corn at Heybridge and for various arrears from Heybridge in the time of John Lindsey, as shown in one bill, £2 5s. 4d. Paid for expenditure on the storage of grain, as shown in one bill, £1 6s. 6d. Paid for shoeing the horses of the Dean and his servants before this account 13s., and within this account 16s. 2d., as shown in four tallies, £1 9s. 2d.
