Message from the H.C. with Ordinances.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir John Wray Knight, &c. which consisted of these Particulars:

1. To desire Concurrence in an Ordinance concerning the speedy Relief of the City of Gloucester.

2. To desire Concurrence in an Ordinance concerning the Assembly of Divines: videlicet,

Clearing some of the Articles from false Constructions.

"It is this Day Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament, That it be propounded to the Assembly of Divines, to consider of the Doctrine of the Nine next Articles of the Thirty-nine Articles of the Church of England, to clear and vindicate the same from all Aspersions and false Interpretations."

Read, and Agreed to.

The Answer returned was:

Answer.

That their Lordships do agree in the Order concerning the Assembly; and touching the Ordinance concerning sending Forces out of London, for the Relief of Gloucester, their Lordships will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.

Soame sent for, for disobeying the Order for Sequestration of Aldenham.

Upon reading the Petition of the Sequestrators of the Profits of the Vicarage of Aldenham, in the County of Hertford, and the Affidavit of Ric'd Axtelly, "That Joseph Sone doth refuse to deliver to them the Possession of the Vicarage-house and Glebe lands, according to the Judgement of this House:" It is (fn. 1) Ordered, That the said Joseph Sone shall be sent for, to appear before this House forthwith, to shew Cause why he disobeys the Order of this House.

Lady Hastings, a Pass.

Ordered, That the Lady Alse Hastings shall have a Pass, to go into Dunnington, in the County of Leycester, with Three Men and Three Women, with their Horses.

Dr. Moore, a Pass.

Ordered, That Mr. Dr. Moore shall have a Pass, to go, with his Brother, and their Servants and Horses, into Bedfordshire.

Ordinance for Relief of Gloucester.

Next, the Ordinance for the sending of Forces from London, for the Relief of Gloucester, was (fn. 2) read, and Agreed to with a small Amendment.

Message to the H. C. that the Lords agree to it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Serjeant Fynch and Dr. Aylett:

To let the House of Commons know, that their Lordships do (fn. 2) agree with them in this Ordinance with the small Amendment.

L. Newburgh, a Pass.

Ordered, That the Lord Viscount Newburgh, an Assistant to this House, shall have Leave to pass from London, to his House in Essex, so often as he shall have Occasion.

Informers who caused L. Hunsden's House to be searched.

Tho. Howe, Tho. Laurance, and Henry Beane, were called in, and charged by the Lord Hunsden to be Informers against him, for the Searching of his House at Hunsden: Hereupon the House gave them an Admonition, to carry themselves more dutiful to his Lordship for the Time to come, and to make their Submission to his Lordship, and then to be discharged for their Restraint.

"An Ordinance of the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, concerning Forces to be sent, by the Committee of the Militia of the City of London, for the Relief of Gloucester, agreed upon the 23d Day of August, 1643.

Ordinance for Relief of Gloucester.

"It is Ordained, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament, That the Committee of the Militia of the City of London shall be, and hereby are, authorized to command Six Regiments of Foot, consisting of Eight Thousand Men, or any less Number, as likewise Fifteen Hundred Horse, or any less Number, either of their Trained Bands, Auxiliaries, or other (fn. 3) Forces under the Command of the said Committee, within the Cities of London and Westm. and all other Forces within the Forts or Lines of Communication, and the Parishes mentioned in the Weekly Bill of Mortality, to march, according to the Discipline and Order of War, under the Conduct and Command of such Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, Captains, and other Officers, as the same Committee shall nominate and appoint, with all necessary Provisions of Arms, Ordnance, Ammunition, and other Carriages, from the City of London, and Places afore-mentioned, unto the Lord General the Earl of Essex, wheresoever he shall be; and, according to his Excellency's Direction, to proceed for the Relief of the City of Gloucester, now besieged, by Diversion or otherwise, and upon such other Service as shall be commanded by his Excellency, with the Consent of the said Committee; and, those Services being performed, the said Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, and other Officers, shall be, and are hereby, authorized to command and conduct all the said Forces, both of Horse and Foot, in their Return to the City of London, or otherwise upon any other Service, according to such Order as they shall receive from the Committee of the Militia afore-mentioned; and all the Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, Captains, and other Officers and Soldiers, are hereby streightly charged and required to be observant and obedient to all the Commands and Orders of the said Committee, in Performance of this Ordinance; for doing whereof, as well the said Committee as all other Persons whom it may concern shall be and are sufficiently warranted and saved harmless, by the Authority of both Houses of Parliament."
