Saundiacre. A messuage, 10a. arable, and 2 1/2r. meadow, held of the king in chief, rendering to the sheriff of Nottingham at the king’s exchequer there 4s. 6d., for which the sheriff answers at the king’s exchequer, with the farm of the serjeanty of Saundiacre.

ESSEX. Inq. 5 Oct. 27 Edw I.
Rumford. The manor (extent given) held of Adam de Cretingge by service of 1d. yearly and 1/4 knight’s fee, whose lands are now in the king’s hand by the death of the said Adam, who held of the king in chief. 40s. ought to be paid therefrom yearly to John de Cantebr(igia). He held no other lands &c. on this side Trent.
The said Henry married a wife under the Jewish law, and afterwards they were converted to the Christian law: they begat a son Thomas, whom the jury say is next heir of the said Henry, if the marriage contracted before they were converted may duly stand. The said Thomas is 30 years of age and more.

507. RICHARD SON OF JOHN.
Writ to the king’s escheator in Ireland, 18 June, 27 Edw. I.
IRELAND. Extent of lands &c. which were of the said Richard in Thomond, made at Lymer(ick) on Wednesday before the Assumption, 27 Edw. I.
Thomond. A cantred called the Cantred of the Isles, containing 40 townships of land with fishery, each worth 2 marks yearly in peace, held of the king in chief without service or rent; but Thomas de Clare in his life time claimed suit from the said land at the county (court) of Bonrath, and caused the said Richard to be called from county (court) to county (court), but was never seised of that suit. He held no other lands in Ireland but the said cantred, which is now worth 20 marks.
His sisters, Avelina, late the wife of Walter de Burgo, from whom Richard de Burgo was born, Joan late the wife of Theobald le Buttiller, and the countess of Warwick, together with Robert de Clifford and Idonia de Leyburn, are his next heirs, and aged 30 and more.

A messuage, garden, 66a. arable, 1a. meadow, 1/2a. wood, 5s. 3d. rent of free tenants (named), and pleas &c. of court, held by petty serjeanty, viz.—conducting the king’s treasure, to a reasonable sum, from the castle of Hereford to the Tower of London at the king’s charges, taking 12d. a day, and carrying the king’s writs from Kyngeston to Clifford.

SALOP. Inq. Monday after St. Andrew, 27 Edw. I.
Berewik. A messuage with garden, 96a. arable, 1a. meadow, a common pasture, and 4s. rent of free tenants (named), held of the earl if Arundell in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, doing guard at the castle (castellum) of Oswaldestre for forty days with one armed man and an unbarded horse whenever there is war in Wales.
He held no other lands &c. on this side Trent than those written in these two inquisitions.
John his son, aged 18 at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula last, is his next heir.
SALOP. Inq. made at Muneton in Strettonesdale on Thursday before the Purification, 27 Edw. I.
Muneton. The site of a messuage with garden without houses, 15a. arable, 1 1/2a. meadow, a fourth part of a water-mill rendering 1 1/2qr. of corn, whereof there were given by one Thurstan Bovy (?) the said Peter’s sexton (sextanum), for the sustenance of a chaplain celebrating divine service in the chapel of Muneton, 7 strikes of corn yearly, and rents (extent given with names of tenants), held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty, viz.—keeping the king’s hays of Hauechurste and Bispmor; which keepership Roger son of John, steward of the forest, has seized into his hand, and does not permit any king’s minister to enter therein.

Waleton on Thames. The manor (extent given with names of tenants, including the prior of Sandone and the rector of Waleton), which is of the honour of Clare, held of the king, by reason of the manor of Blacchingeleghe which is in the king’s hand, by service of a knight’s fee.
Mulesee. 40a. land held of the prior of Bissopesgate by service of 1lb. of pepper.

Wystaneston. A messuage, a curtilage, a dovecote, and 17a. arable, held of the king in chief by homage and fealty, doing 2s. yearly at the exchequer by the hands of the sheriff; which messuage the said John and Isabel Haket his wife sometime bought of Nicholas de Schypton.
Isabel Haket, aged 33 and more, is his next heir of the said lands &c.
Maurdyn manor. A messuage &c., 96a. arable, 9a. meadow, 1a. pasture, and 15s. rents of freemen (named), which whole rent is due to Lady Maud de Mortuo Mari, held of the said Lady Maud by socage.
Lude Muchegros. 18a. arable held of the dean and chapter of Hereford by service of 5s. yearly rent.

A capital messuage, with the advowson of the church, 80a. arable, 3a. meadow, 37 bovates of land in bondage, 14 cottages, a free tenant rendering 7s. yearly, a water-mill, and a wood, all held of the honour of Tykehull by service of rendering 10l. yearly to any lord of the honour, doing no foreign service.
Crumwell. A capital messuage with the advowson of the church, 80a. land, 40a. meadow, a several pasture, a fishery, 22 bovates of land in bondage, 6 cottages, and free tenants rendering 23s. 8d. yearly, held of the bishop of Lincoln by service of a knight’s fee, foreign service and homage.
Loudham. Two bovates of land held of John de Monteforti by service of 5s. yearly, without foreign service.
Burton. A culture of land containing 15a. held of William son of Richard de Burton by service of 1d. yearly.

Kingeston. A capital messuage held of the men of Kyng[eston], who hold the town of the king at fee farm.
La Combe. 60a. land held of the king in chief by serjeanty of collecting the queen’s wool, which serjeanty is now extended at 20s. yearly to be paid at the king’s exchequer; and the prior of Mertone holds 12a. land of the same serjeanty, rendering 4s. yearly to the said Peter; Thomas Capeleyn of Norbelton holds a croft of the same, rendering 18d. yearly and finding 3 men in autumn whose works are worth 3d.; and there are divers other tenants (named) at small rents.
