YORK. Inq. Monday after St. Ambrose, 27 Edw. I. (defaced).
Sproxton. Eleven bovates of land, each containing 9a. by the perch of 18 feet, 16a. meadow, a water-mill, a toft and 2 bovates of land held in bondage, rents of free tenants (full extent given with names of tenants) &c., all held of the king in chief by homage and service of 1/4 knight’s fee, and rendering 13s. 4d. by the hands of the sheriff and 2s. for fines of the wapentake; a capital messuage, 8 bovates of land, and 50a. wasted wood, held of the abbot of St. Mary’s, York, rendering 2s. 8d. yearly; 7 bovates of land and 4 cottages rendering to the abbot 26s. 8d. yearly, of which 7 bovates and 4 cottages Maud late the wife of the said Robert was enfeoffed by William de Sproxton, and had peaceful seisin thereof for thirteen weeks before the said Robert espoused her. But of all the above tenements the said Robert demised a moiety to Sir Osbert de Spaldington, to hold for a term of twenty-four years, whereof two years had elapsed at the feast of St. Michael, 26 Edw. I.
William his son, aged 21 at the feast of the Invention of the Holy Cross last, is his next heir.

Fersfeld. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including a wood called Homwode, a grove called Wyndleye, and common pastures called Brysingham green and Fersfeld, and the patronage of the church, held of the earl Marshal in chief by service of a knight’s fee.
Denton. The manor (extent given) held of Sir Robert de Tateshale in chief by service of . .s. yearly only; 10a. land (held) of Roger Bygot by service of 6d. yearly; and 2a. meadow held of the same Roger by service of 2d. yearly, and doing suit at the hundred of Hernesham.

DEVON. Inq. Monday the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle, 28 Edw. I.
Bryxham. Two parts of the manor (extent given) held in dower of the inheritance of the said Reginald, now in the king’s hand; for she sought her dower against Walter sometime bishop of Exeter and others holding part of the said inheritance of the gift of the said Reginald, who called to warrant Peter Corbet and Henry de la Pomerey as next heirs in blood of the said inheritance, who warranted, and she was dowered, and held of the said Peter and Henry, as a member of the barony of Hurbertone.
Peter Corbet aged 30 and more, and Henry de la Pomerey aged 32, are next heirs of the inheritance of the said Reginald.
Blakemore. 6d. yearly rent held in dower of the king as guardian of the manor of Hurbertone, which is in his hand.
Doneswych. 8s. yearly rent held of James de Oxton by service of fealty.
Modbury manor. 100s. yearly rent held of the said James without doing any service.
Brydford manor. 39s. 6d. yearly rent held of the same James without doing any service.
The reversion of the said rents in Doneswych, Modbury and Brydford is to the said James de Oxton.
CORNWALL. Inq. made at Esse on Wednesday before the Circumcision, 28 Edw. I (defective).
Trematone manor …… rent held in dower of the inheritance of the said Reginald …….. by service of fealty.
Esse borough. 49s. 6d. yearly rent …… manor of ….. the aforesaid earl by service of fealty.
Gargawel manor …… of the bishop of Exeter by service of fealty.
Writ of certiorari because in the above inquisition no mention is made how the inheritance of the said Reginald is in the king’s hand, and whether the barony of Huberton is so or not, 27 March, 29 Edw. I.
DEVON. Inq. made at Brixham, 4 July, 29 Edw. I.
One Ralph de Valle Torta who sometime held the manors of Hurberton and Brixham with other lands &c. of the king in chief by barony, died seised thereof leaving Reginald his son and heir under age; but Joan his wife, who still survives, is dowered of a third part of the manor of Brixham. The said Reginald, being by reason of his minority in the king’s wardship together with the lands &c. of his inheritance, with the king’s assent married the aforesaid Hawis, and died without heir of himself, whereby the inheritance aforesaid reverted to one Roger de Valle Torta as uncle of the same Reginald. And the said Hawis by the judgment of the king’s court recovered as dower two parts of the said manor of Brixham. Which Roger alienated all his lands &c. to divers men, retaining nothing but the said manor of Hurberton, which is the head of the barony aforesaid, and died seised thereof; whereupon the escheator took that manor into the king’s hand, and so it remains to this day. The said Hawis lately died seised of two parts of the said manor of Brixham in dower, whereupon they were taken into the king’s hand, and still remain there because Henry de la Pomereye and Peter Corbet, the next heirs of the said Roger have not yet sued their right therein against the king.

Redenhal. The manor (full extent given), including customs called customers’ aid and ward, a rent called ‘loksilver,’ and other customs, held, jointly enfeoffed with Margaret his wife by Bartholomew de Yatingden, father of the said Margaret, with the king’s confirmation, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies or other heirs of the said Margaret if she should not have issue by him, of the king in chief by service of 2 knights’ fees. The earl Marshal receives 106s. yearly rent from the manor.
Henry, son of the said Hugh and Margaret, aged 16, is his next heir.
BERKS. Inq. Thursday before St. Augustine, 27 Edw. I.
Yatyngdon. The manor (extent given) held for life only as the right of Margaret his wife of John, son and heir of Roger de Somery, by service of a knight’s fee by doing scutage to him when it runs; so that he held a moiety as of the inheritance of the said Margaret, and the other moiety as of the acquisition of the said Hugh and Margaret; for one Ralph de Knyveton and Eleanor his wife gave a moiety of the said manor to the said Hugh and Margaret and the heirs of the said Margaret, and enfeoffed them jointly by his charter, and granted the same to them to hold to them and the heirs of the said Margaret, by fine levied in the king’s court; so that the said Hugh had no right in the manor except for life, and after his death it ought to remain to the said Margaret and her heirs as abovesaid.
Henry his son, aged 16, is his next heir.
WARWICK. Inq. made at Lapworth, 11 June, 27 Edw. I.
Grafton. 30a. land and 8a. meadow held of the said Hugh by the abbot of Westm[inster], rendering 12s. yearly; and 7 tofts and 7 bovates of land (extent given with names of tenants).
Over Etyndon. A messuage and lands (extent given with names of tenants).
All the aforesaid tenements held of William le Botyler of Wemme by service of 1/4 knight’s fee and doing scutage when it shall happen.
Etyndon parish. 3s. yearly rent in the field of Fulry, acquired of John de Hercy, tenure unspecified.
Henry his son, aged 16 at the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 26 Edw. I, is his next heir.
LEICESTER. Inq. made at Leicester, 21 May, 27 Edw. I.
Braundeston. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), with 3 virgates of land in the same town, held of Thomas de Caumvile for 1/10 knight’s fee, doing scutage when it shall happen and two appearances at the view of frankpledge; and he holds (sic) a carucate of land in the same town of Roger la Zouche by service of 12s. 4d. yearly, and doing suit at his court there every three weeks; a carucate of land of Geoffrey le Mareschal, rendering at the feasts of St. Thomas the Apostle and Christmas 22d.; and 2 1/2 virgates of land of Amice de Chadesdene, rendering a pair of gloves at Easter for all service.

Lapworth. The manor with 3 carucates of land (full extent given with names of tenants) held, jointly enfeoffed with Margaret his wife by Master Henry de Brandeston sometime lord of Lapworth, of the earl of Leicester by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, doing suit at the earl’s court at Leicester every three weeks.

BEDFORD. Inq. Tuesday the eve of St. Mary Magdalen, 27 Edw. I.
Luyton. A sixth part of the manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including a wood called Couruggewode, a free fishery, a free court and view of frank pledge, and a market, held of the king in chief by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee, and rendering yearly to Junianus (?) de Dovre, chaplain, 100s. yearly, of the gift of the said Maud for his life or until a competent ecclesiastical benefice shall have been provided for him by her or her heirs; and a messuage with garden and 3 cottages, held of Robert Bishop in chief by service of 3s. 2d. and 2lb. of wax yearly.
Her daughters, Joan de Vivonia and Cecily de Bello Campo, are her next heirs and aged 40 and more.
BERKS. Inq. Monday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 27 Edw. I.
Neubury. A sixth part of a mill, worth 40d. yearly, held as of her pourparty of the inheritance of the earl Marshal of England, by knight’s service, doing scutage when it runs.
Her daughters, Lady Joan de Vyvonia aged 50, and Lady Cecily de Bello Campo aged 40, are her next heirs.
Writ of plenius certiorari whether Guy de Roche Chuard and Sibyl his wife and Aymer de Archiaco are co-heirs of the abovesaid Joan and Cecily of the inheritance aforesaid, as they assert, or not, 8 Aug. 27 Edw. I.
BEDFORD. Inq. made at Luyton on Sunday the eve of St. Matthew, 27 Edw. I.
Sibyl the wife of Guy de Roche Chiward and Aymer de Archiaco are co-heirs of the aforesaid Joan and Cecily of the inheritance of the aforesaid Maud, for the said Sibyl was her daughter and sister of the said Joan and Cecily, and the said Aymer was the son and heir of Mabel the fourth daughter and sister. The said Sibyl and Aymer are aged 24 and more.
Memorandum of the part of Aymer de Archiaco, kinsman and fourth of the heirs of Maud de Kyme.

Costed alias Cotsted. The manor (extent given with names of tenants), including 80a. arable in Sheppey (Scapeya) pertaining to the manor, held of the king in chief by service of a sparrow-hawk or 2s., to be paid at the king’s exchequer yearly.
Stokebery and Hertlepe. 47a. arable, . . pasture, and 5a. underwood, of gavelkind, held of Baldwin de Ryvers, the court of Middelthone, and other lords of the fee, rendering 4s. 10d. (?), and 2 hens price 2d., yearly.
Renham and Newyntone. 9a. arable of gavelkind held of Sir William de Leybourne and the nuns of Sheppey, rendering 22d. yearly.
Newynthone. 1a. meadow of gavelkind held of John de W …… rendering 1/4d. yearly; and there are there assised rents (extent given with names of tenants).
Canterbury. Certain burgages held of the Aldermanry of Westgate, for which (he received?) 100s. yearly from Richard (?) de Lyndeford.
Newenthone. A house held of the king in gavelkind, which can be let to farm for 13s. 4d. yearly; and there are 1qr. 2bus. of barley rent of a mill called Tayluresmeln (?), and pleas and perquisites of court.

KENT. Inq. made at Nettlestede on Monday the octave of the Purification, 27 Edw. I.
Helgth. The manor (extent given) held of Richard de Pimpe by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and rendering him 3s. 6d. yearly; and 60a. pasture of gavelkind held of John de Radmilde by service of 11s. yearly, and 15s. 2 1/4d. of gavelkind, a cock and 15 hens of the same tenure, pleas and perquisites.
Clarice aged 24, Helen (Elena) aged 22, Lucy aged 20, and Thomasina aged 17, daughters of Ronald alias Rodland de Ocstede, are next heirs jointly of the said Roger.
SURREY. Inq. 9 March, 27 Edw. I.
Okstede. The manor was sometime held entirely by one Roland de Okstede of the king in chief by service of 2 1/2 knights’ fees, doing suit at the court of Boulogne every month, and by scutage; after whose death the manor fell to his five daughters, of whom Margery la Savage was the eldest and was seised of her portion, and by her death Roger her son, a minor and in the king’s wardship, held in the said manor a hall and upper room with two chambers &c., a fifth part of a water-mill, and lands, rents, &c. (extent given with names of tenants), of the king in chief by the service aforesaid; wherefrom there are due to Martin Schenche 13s. 4d. yearly. He held nothing else in the county.

KENT. Inq. made at Thonebrigg on Thursday after the Annunciation, 27 Edw. I (defaced).
Nettlestede. A manor (extent given with names of tenants) held of Richard de Pympe by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and rendering him 3s. 6d. yearly; and 60a. pasture of gavelkind held of John de Rademilde by service of 12s. yearly, and 15s. 2 1/2d. of the same tenure, and 15 hens at Christmas.

SURREY. Inq. made in the church of St. Mary, Suthwerk, 22 March, 27 Edw. I.
Okested manor. A hall, a solar, and two cellars under the same, a curtilage with garden, a fifth part of a dove cot and of a water-mill, lands, rents &c. (full extent given with names of tenants), held by the said Roger, who died a minor and in the king’s wardship, of the king in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit at the king’s court of the honour of Boulogne every month for his proportion of the manor; and there are due 13s. 4d. (yearly) to Martin Senche and his heirs. He held nothing else in the county.
