The premises are held of the king in chief by a rent of 12l. yearly to be paid by the hands of the sheriff.
He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 12 March last without heir, so that the premises after the death of Maud and Thomas ought to come to the king as an escheat. |

Sutton. The manor (extent given), held for life by way of dower after the death of John de Hastyngges, her late husband, of Sir Walter de Maunny, as of his manor of Fornesete, by service of 2 1/2 knights’ fees, of which Brunsted is one knight’s fee and is held of the manor of Sutton. The extent includes 6a. of salt meadow, fisheries called ‘Oxendelis’ and ‘Bastwyk,’ another fishery under the wood of Catfeld, a wood called ‘Northwode,’ a fishery called ‘Kenles’ for which the abbot St. Benet pays from of old 12s. yearly for fee-farm, a chace, to wit, Heigham, by occasion of which the lord of Sutton and the abbot of St. Benet once in the year at their pleasure shall take all geese found in the meadows and pastures of Hygham called ‘Oxendele’ and shall impound them at Hygham, and of the said geese they shall have a tenth part, and of this profit the lord of Sutton shall have a third part. And at Hikelyngg the lord of Sutton, the earl of Suffolk, and Edward de Berkeleye shall have a chace in the common meadows and pastures, to wit, to chase and impound all geese found there once a year at their pleasure, whereof they shall have a tenth part, and of this profit the lord of Sutton shall have a third part. And at Horseye there is a chace in common to the lord of Sutton [and] the lord of Westlexham to take all geese found in the meadows and pastures at Horseye and impound them there once a year at their pleasure, whereof the lord of Sutton shall have a tenth part. And at Bromsted and Riston there is another chace belonging to Sutton manor, to wit, to take once a year all geese and animals feeding on the commons of Bromsted and Riston, and impound them at Sutton, taking for each beast 1d. And at Horseye and Wastlexham there is another chace in the pasture of Flodgatis to take all animals except those of commoners, and impound them at Sutton, taking for each beast 1d. And at Ludham Ferthyng there is another chace common to the lord of Sutton and the abbot of St. Benet, to take all animals feeding there and impound them at Ludham until they receive 1d. for each beast.
Wynneferthyng. The manor (extent given), held as above of the lord de Monte Canis’ by service of one knight’s fee. The extent includes a park, a wood called ‘Hulverwode,’ and a chace on the common of Wynneferthing and Banham called ‘Banham Grene,’ to wit, once a year at his pleasure to take all animals feeding there and impound them in the manor of Wynneferthing, taking for his share for each beast reasonably for the third part of its pasture and not more, because the lord of Banham has the remaining two-thirds as his share. She held in dower after the death of William de Clynton, late earl of Huntingdon, her husband:—
Upchurche, Renham, Hertlepe, Halghstou and Stokynbury. A moiety of a ruined windmill, and of rents of 4s. and 2 hens, held of queen Philippa, as of her manor of Middilton, by fealty; and a moiety of a rent of 54 quarters of palm-barley, held of nobody because it is only a rent-sec. She recovered the said dower against Thomas de Gillyngham, Richard de Gyllyngham, Nicholas Edon, James Palmere and John Sanye, to whom the reversion belongs after her death by virtue of a feoffment by the above-mentioned earl of Huntingdon to the said Thomas. She died on 1 November, 41 Edward III. John de Hastynges, earl of Pembroke, of full age, is her kinsman and heir. The said Thomas, Richard, Nicholas, James and John have received the issues ever since her death, and are to answer therefor. |

(a) Walter de Heselarton, knight.
Wylton in Pykerynglyth. He held the manor in fee, to him and his heirs, by gift of John de Heselarton, knight, his father, without the king’s licence, as the jurors understand. The manor is held of the king in chief, as of the crown, [by service] of one knight’s fee. He died on 24 August, 23 Edward III, in the pestilence, Walter his son and heir being then a minor and unmarried. The custody of the manor and the marriage of the heir belonged to the king, who had nothing from them. (b) Eustachia late the wife of the said Walter the elder, daughter and heir of Peter de Percy. Sutton upon Derwent, Kernetby and Ilkelay. She was seised in demesne as of fee of the said manors, and of lands &c. in Scorby and Staynfordbrug, which are held of divers lords and of the king in chief. She was an idiot from birth, as the jurors understand. Wharrom Percy. She also held the said manor, with the advowson of the church, which are held of the king in chief by homage and the service of a grand serjeanty, of the inheritance of the said Peter de Percy. Thomas Ughtred, knight, deceased, Martin de Skirne and Walter de Cotes were in possession of the premises from the death of Walter her husband until her own death about a year ago. She died seised in her demesne as of fee of the said manor of Wharrom, and Walter, her son and heir, entered it by process of the king’s court. (c) John Lely of Carleton in Balne, the elder. He held on the day of his death:— Carleton in Balne. Two tofts, 2 bovates and 55a. land and 1a. meadow, held of the king in chief by homage and service of a thirty-fourth part of a knight’s fee, by the king’s charter dated 9 July, 16 Edward III; and 44a. land, held of Miles de Stapilton, knight, by service of 14s. 7d. yearly. Immediately after his death John, his son and heir, did homage for the premises held of the king and entered them by process of the king’s court, and died about three years ago, his heir being a minor and unmarried. Since his death, Joan late his wife, who survives, has been in possession without process of the king’s court. The custody of the premises and the marriage of the heir pertain to the king. (d) Katharine Batail of Balcolm. She held on the day of her death:— Balcolm. The manor, held of the bishop of Durham by fealty and service of 4 marks yearly; and some tenements near Balcolm, quantity and value not known. She died on 4 October, 21 Edward III. Nicholas, her son and heir, was an idiot from birth and died about two years ago, day not known. Who has been in possession of the premises the jurors know not. (e) Henry de Hertlyngton, knight. He adhered to Gilbert de Middelton and Gocelin Dayvill, traitors to Edward II about 50 years ago and more, and to the Scots, the king’s enemies, in their treasons. On the day of his said adherence he held:— Hertlyngton. The manor, now held by William de Hertlyngton, with tenements in Hawenlith now held by William de Rylliston. Braham. The manor, now held by Thomas de Spaygne, and other tenements in the county, quantity and value unknown. (f) Stephen de Eure. He adhered to Gilbert de Middelton and the Scots, as above, and held on the day of his said adherence:— Mar, Bentelay, Arkesey, Athewyk, Bugthorp and elsewhere. Tenements worth 20l. yearly, of which Richard Barry and Constance his wife, late the wife of Hugh de Eure, and others unknown, have been in possession since the said adherence. (g) Laurence Fraunk of Wytheton by Harwood. He committed a felony 23 years ago, on account of which he adhered to the Scots. On the day of the said adherence he had:— Wytheton and Westscogh. A messuage and a carucate of land which Richard de Rymyngton holds. (h) John de Insula, lord of the manor of Harwod. Harwod. 24 years ago he granted 20s. yearly rent out of the said manor, which he held of the king in chief, to Margaret late the wife of Thomas de Thwaytes, who survives, for her life, without the king’s licence. (i) John de Eure, knight. He held on the day of his death:— Stokeslay. The manor, with its members, held of the king by the forfeiture of John de Balliolo, late king of Scotland, by knight’s service. He also held divers other lands in the escheator’s bailiwick, quantity and tenure not known. He died about a year ago. Heir not known. |

The castle and manor, with the appurtenances in Tateshale, Thorp by Tateshale, Parva Stretton, Marton by Thornton and Boston, held for life by demise of Thomas de Wyke, clerk, Thomas de Kirkeby, parson of the church of Tateshale, Henry Asty, John de Wyke and William Stel, to whom Ralph de Cromwell and Maud his wife had demised them with the king’s licence for the term of John de Kirketon’s life, with reversion to Ralph and Maud and Maud’s heirs. The premises are held of the king in chief by service of three parts of a knight’s fee and by service of 40s. yearly to be paid at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff of Lincoln as the settled fine from Tateshale.
Tumby. The manor, with the appurtenances in Tumby and Marum, held for life by demise of Ralph de Cromwell, knight, and Maud his wife, with reversion as above. The reversion belonged to Thomas, son and heir of the said William, who granted it to Richard Lyouns and his heirs by a fine levied in the king’s court with the king’s licence. By virtue of the said grant Joan attorned to the said Richard.
She died on 19 June last. Thomas aforesaid, aged 26 years and more, is son and heir of the blood of the aforesaid Thomas (sic). |

Lymbury. Adam de Lymbergh, canon of St. Mary’s, Lincoln, Robert, parson of a mediety of the church of Lesyngham, Richard Arnald, Walter de Poynton and William Pilat were seised of the manor of Lymbury in 34 Edward III by grant of Philip de Lymbury, and enfeoffed thereof the said Philip and Joan his wife and the heirs of their bodies in the same year. Philip held the manor (extent given) in fee tail of Hugh Morte Mari by service of rendering 17s. 5d.
Cadyngdon. He also held 4a. land in Cadyngdon by rendering to the dean of St. Paul’s, London, 2s. 6d. yearly. He died on 6 July, 41 Edward III. Philip his son, aged 10 years and more, is his heir. |

Iclynton. The manor, held of Antony Lucy by rendering 6s. 8d. yearly; and a messuage and 8a. land, held of the abbot of Tiltey by rendering 16d. yearly.
Horseth. The manor, held of the earl of Oxford by service of holding the earl’s horse-comb when he mounts his palfrey while the tenant of the manor is in his presence. Stretelee. A messuage called ‘Gambonesplace,’ and 20a. land and 2a. wood, held of Walter Maune, service not known. Hyngston. A messuage, 100a. land and 2a. 1r. meadow, held of the bishop of Lincoln by knight’s service. Adam de Lymbergh, canon of Lincoln, and others (as in the last inquisition), were seised of the above manors &c. by gift of Philip de Lymbury, and enfeoffed thereof the said Philip and Joan his wife and the heirs of their bodies. Philip held the premises in fee tail in form aforesaid. He held nothing in the county of the king in chief. Date of death and heir as above. |

Nocton. A moiety of the manor, held jointly with Joan his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, by grant of Adam de Lymbergh, canon of St. Mary’s, Lincoln, and others (as above), with the king’s licence, with remainder to the right heirs of Philip. The moiety is held of the king in chief by parcel of a barony.
Water Wylughby. A messuage, a carucate of land and meadow, and 5 marks rent of free tenants, held jointly with Joan his wife of Robert de Waver by knight’s service. Osberneby. A vacant plot, 30a. land, 1a. meadow and 5 marks rent of free tenants, held jointly with Joan his wife of Edward prince of Wales by service of 4s. yearly and by rendering 2d. yearly to Gilbert earl of Angos. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died at Constantyn Noble in parts beyond seas on 6 July, 41 Edward III. Philip his son, aged 7 years and more, is his heir. |

Sandforde. A messuage and 2 virgates of land, held for her life, of the same inheritance, of Matthew de Button by service of 13s. 4d. yearly. The premises came into her hands after the death of Richard her former husband. She died on 25 April last. Thomas, son of the aforesaid Richard and Emma, aged 15 years, is her heir. |

La Boxe. The manor, held for life jointly with the aforesaid John her husband, deceased, of the duke of Lancaster, as of his castle of Troubrugge, by knight’s service, with reversion to William son of the said John and the heirs male of his body, and remainder to John’s right heirs, as appears by a fine levied in the king’s court.
La Lee and Gore. A third part of the manors, held for life as dower, with reversion to Michael de Ponynges, knight, and Joan his wife, for the term of Joan’s life, and after her death to the heirs of John de Molyns. She recovered the said third part of these manors as dower by writ in the king’s court from the said Michael and Joan. She held it of the abbot of Malmesbury and John Blount by knight’s service. She died on 21 January, 40 Edward III. |

She held the premises for life by a fine levied in the king’s court to her and John de Molyns her late husband, with remainders to John their son and the heirs male of his body, and to William, brother of the said John son of John. Because the said John brother of William died without heir male of his body, after the death of John and Gilles all the premises shall remain to William by virtue of the fine aforesaid, and he is the heir.
Stokepugeys and Ditton. The manors, held in fee tail of John Buttourd, knight, by service of one knight’s fee. Date of death as above. The aforesaid William de Molyns, knight, aged 23 years and more, is her son and heir. |

Aston Bernard and Ilmere. The manors, held in fee tail of the king in chief by service of the serjeanty of being the king’s falconer. She held them by a charter between John Blaket, son and heir of John Blaket, knight, and [John de Molyns and] (fn. 3) the said Gilles his wife, so that if the aforesaid John de Molyns and Gilles his wife should die without heir of their bodies, then the manors should remain to the right heirs of the said John.
She had no [other] lands &c. in co. Buckingham, except in Dachet and Brehull by assignment of William son and heir of John de Molyns, knight, by way of dower. Date of death as above. Heir as above, aged 21 years and more. |

The said Robert held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday, 19 July last. William his son, aged 13 years, is his heir. |

She died in 34 Edward III, day not known, seised of:—
Parish of St. Clement by Candelwykestret. A tenement with 2 cellars and 3 shops and solars built over, worth 100s. yearly. John Fraunceys and Emma, his wife, daughter of John Vykery, fuller, and of the said Alice, have been in possession of the premises and received the issues since Alice’s death. Emma was born two years before the espousals were celebrated between John Vykery and Alice, and is a bastard. Alice has no heirs now surviving, so far as at present the jurors can ascertain. The premises are held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city of London. Another copy of the above. |

He died in 18 Edward I, day not known, seised of:—
Sopereslane. 18s. rent from a tenement belonging to St. Martin’s le Grand. Parish of St. Mary of Aldirmaricherche. 6s. rent from a tenement of John de Thorneye. Crepulgate. Three small houses situate without Crepulgate near the Bar, by the house formerly belonging to Gilbert le Carpenter and now to John Seman towards the south, with 12d. rent from a tenement which Thomas de Morle holds opposite the said three houses. The said Hugh, by his testament proved, proclaimed and enrolled in the husting of London held on Monday the morrow of Holy Trinity, 18 Edward I, bequeathed the said houses and rents towards the support of a chaplain celebrating daily the mass of the Blessed Mary in Aldirmaricherche for the souls of himself, his wife, Walter Motoun, and all the faithful departed, and to maintain lights (torcheis) in the same church. The wardens of the church have received the rents and held the houses since his death. Gilbert Bouet now holds the three houses by demise of William Buckeby, rector of the church, and John Shalyngford and Robert de Louthe, the present wardens of the fabric thereof, which three receive the issues and rents by virtue of Hugh’s legacy aforesaid. Hugh has no heirs now surviving. The houses and rents are held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city of London. Another copy of the above is attached. |

Bondbrustwyk. A messuage and 2 bovates of land, held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Aumale, as of his manor of Brustwyk, by service of making summonses and attachments to the wapentake of Holdernesse.
He died on 20 August, 23 Edward III. Beatrice wife of Robert Aumener, and William son of William son of Stephen de Bondbrustwyk, his kinsfolk, aged 26 years and more, are his heirs. After Peter’s death the king by his escheator seized the premises by reason of the minorities of Alice mother of the said William son of William, daughter and one of the heirs of Peter, and of the said Beatrice, and received the issues from the said 20 August until 6 [May], 28 Edward III, when a moiety of the premises was delivered by the escheator to Robert Aumener and Beatrice because Beatrice had sufficiently proved her age. The other moiety of the premises remained longer in the king’s hand, who received the issues by reason of the minority of the said William son of William from the said 6 May until 1 December, 29 Edward III, when by letters patent he granted to Isabel his daughter all the wardships and escheats of all tenants within her manor and lordship of Brustwyk. The said Isabel has received the issues of the said moiety from the said 1 December until now. |

Nettilslak in Ulvereston. 3 messuages and 30a. land, held of the king in chief, of William de Coucy’s fee of Ulvereston which was then in the king’s hand, by knight’s service.
(Unspecified.) A messuage and 16a. land, held of John Toures by knight’s service. Dalton in Fourneys. An acre of land, held of the abbot of Fourneys by fealty. He died on Monday [before] St. Wulfram, 23 Edward III. Alice daughter of Robert Couherd, aged 50 years, John son of John Wauweyn, aged 40 years, John de Lyndeby, son of Roger le White, aged 22 years, and Alina daughter of Robert de Staynton, aged 24 years, are his heirs. Henry de Yokkessale and Alan de Rayneford, escheators, were in possession of the premises for four years, and Henry de Haydok, parson of the church of Ecleston, was in possession for twelve years by the king’s grant by letters patent, by reason that John de Lyndeby and Alina daughter of Robert de Staynton were then within age. |
