Saturday, the 25th of October, 1656.

Repairing House.

ORDERED, That Mr. Embree, the Surveyor, be and is hereby appointed to view the Room over the Parliament-House, to see what is necessary to be done as to the Removing of the Records there; and to make Certificate thereof, that Order may be taken therein.

Union with Scotland.

A Bill for Uniting of Scotland into one Commonwealth with England, was this Day read the First time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be read the Second time, on Tuesday Sevennight.

Creditors and Prisoners.

Ordered, That the Bill for Relief of Creditors and Prisoners, be brought in on Tuesday Morning next.

Court of Wards.

Ordered, That the Bill for taking away the Court of Wards, be read the Second time on Wednesday next.

Masham's Estate.

Ordered, That Mr. Francis Bacon, Mr. Pury, Major Templer, Mr. Barrington, Colonel Twisleton, Colonel Carter, Mr. Nicholls, Mr. Shapcott, Sir Richard Lucy, Mr. Arthur Upton, Colonel Purefoy, Colonel Rous, Colonel Mathews, Major-General Haines, Colonel Wilton, Mr. Bodurda, be added to the Committee to whom the Bill for raising Portions for the younger Children of William Masham Esquire, deceased, . . . .

Raising Money.

The House, according to former Order, was resolved into a Committee of the whole House, upon the Business of raising present Monies; and for future Assistance for carrying . . . the Spanish War.

Mr. Speaker left the Chair.

Master of the Rolls took the Chair.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Master of the Rolls reports from the said Committee of the whole House, several Votes of that Committee: Viz.

That, in the former Order touching Forests, the Word "Chaces" be added; and that the House be moved to that Purpose.

That the House be moved, That it be referred to a Committee to consider how the Excise of Ale and Beer may be improved; and the Payment thereof made more certain, and brought in with less Charge, by imposing a certain Rate upon Alehouses, Inns, and Victualling-houses, to be paid in lieu of the Excise payable by them.

That the House be moved to appoint an Account to be brought in, what will probably be necessary for carrying on the Spanish Wars, for the Year ensuing; and of the present Revenues, how far they will reach to the defraying that Charge: And that the several Committees do likewise return a Report to the House, what, upon the several References, they do find, that may contribute to the defraying that Charge.

Whereupon it was Resolved, by the Parliament, That, in the Order that is made touching Forests, the Word "Chaces" be added.

Resolved, That an Account be brought in, what will probably be necessary for carrying on the Spanish Wars for the Year ensuing; and of the present Revenues, how far they will reach to the defraying that Charge: And that the several Committees do likewise return a Report to the House, what, upon the several References, they do find, that may contribute to the defraying that Charge.

Resolved, That this Account be brought in on Thursday Sevennight.

Resolved, That his Highness the Lord Protector be attended with the Desires of this House, That his Highness will be pleased to cause this Account to be returned unto the House by Thursday next come Sevennight.

Resolved, That the Lord Lambert be desired to acquaint his Highness with this Vote.

Irish Affairs.

Ordered, That Mr. Bisse, Colonel Hewson, Captain Halsey, Alderman Foote, Mr. Lloyd, be added to the Committee for Irish Affairs.
