Friday, the 22d of July, 1653.

Sheriff of Suffolk.

ORDERED, That the Lord Commissioner Keeble be authorized to administer the Oath to Edward Esquire, Sheriff of Suffolk.

Haverford-West Assessment.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to consider of the Case of the poor Inhabitants of the Town of Haverford-West, in South-Wales, in reference to the Assessment, and the Arrears thereof; and that they be impowered to do therein what shall be fit.

Fines on Bills, &c.

An Act for taking away Fines upon Bills, Declarations, and original Writs, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to the Committee for the Law.

Appeals from Ireland.

A Letter from the Commissioners of Parliament in Ireland, dated the 24th of June 1653, directed To the Members of Parliament for Ireland; with a Petition inclosed, directed To the Right honourable the Commissioners of the Commonwealth of England for the Affairs of Ireland; being the humble Petition of Philip Ferneby Esquire, and Lettice his Wife: Which were both this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Ireland, to bring in a Bill for Redress of the Grievances complained of in this Petition, and in Cases of like Nature; reserving the Liberty of Appeals to the Parliament.

Scotch Affairs.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Affairs of Scotland have Power to send for Persons, Papers, and Records.

Prisons, &c.

Ordered, That the Quorum of the Committee of Prisons be Five; with Power to send for Persons, Papers, Records.

Committees.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee for Committees, to consider of the Orders of the House; and present such of them to the House as they shall think fit.

Law.

Resolved, That the House do now take into Consideration the Business of the Law in general.

Judges of Admiralty.

Colonel Sidenham presents, from the Council of State, Doctor Turner, and Doctor Godolphine, to be Two of the Judges of the Admiralty.

The Question being put, That the House doth agree with the Opinion of the Council herein;

The House was divided.
The Yeas went forth.

So it passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That it be referred back to the Council of State; and report it To-morrow Morning.
