Delinquents Estates.
THE House this Day resumed the Debate upon the Act for Sale of the Estates of several Delinquents.
Ordered, by the Parliament, That the Trustees in this Act named do take care, that no Person be by them admitted to have or receive any Benefit by any particular Proviso or Clause in this Act, until that such Person shall first pay unto the Clerk of the Parliament the Fees due to Mr. Speaker, and the Officers of Parliament, for such Proviso, as if the said Person or Persons had procured Acts of Parliament on his or their Behalf.
The Question being propounded, That Maximillian Mohun do stand in this Bill;

Depositions against Gokin.
Mr. Garland, by Command of the Parliament, reported, The Depositions taken against Mr. Samuell Gokin.
"9 Julii 1651."
"Daniel Gotherson, sworn, faith, That about Seven or Eight Months since, walking in Westminster Hall, a Gentleman being in his Company, Mr. Gokyn met them; and, laying his Hand upon this Examinant, in the Hearing of the other Party (as he conceives) said, Can you help us to any honest Men to be Surveyors: And this Examinant asking him, for what; the said Mr. Gokin replied, There was an Act coming forth for Sale of Delinquents Lands: And that some Members of the House had named him to be a Trustee: And he thought they would force him to be one: and wanting a Lawyer, he thought he should be Chairman; or Words to this Effect: And thereupon this Examinant said, he desired to be one: Whereupon Mr. Gokyn drawing him aside from the said Gentleman, he asked, If he were serious: And this Examinant replied, Yes: Whereupon Mr. Gokyn felt in his own hand, and said, You must produce: To which this Examinant replied, He had had great Losses, and could not give much; but he would willingly give Ten Pounds: And Mr. Gokyn replied, He would . . . him to a Place worth Fifty Pounds: And thereupon this Examinant said, He would rather give Twenty, than go without, to the best of his Remembrance: And thereupon Mr. Gokyn advised this Examinant to use his Interest to his Friends that are Members of the House, to settle the said Mr. Gokin; and then they Two should not differ."

"This Examinant faith, That, about Seven Weeks ago, walking in Westminster Hall (Southwards), with Captain Gotherson, we met Mr. Gokyn: Who spake in the Hearing of this Examinant, and told the said Captain, That the Parliament was passing an Act for the Sale of Delinquents Lands; and there was wanting honest Men for Surveyors; the State having been much wronged by divers that had been intrusted already; for he was much urged by divers Parliament Men to be a Trustee; for that they had not, in any Committees for the Sale of any Lands heretofore, so much as one Lawyer to make a Chairman: And thereupon the said Captain Gothersall replied, That he cared not if he were a Surveyor: He was as able as another; and would be faithful: And immediately Mr. Gokin laid his Hand upon the Captain's Hand, and drew him some Distance from me; and there they whispered, and moved their Hands for a little time, and parted. And then the said Captain returned to me again, shaking of his Head, and said, What a Rogue is this! What do you think he asks me to help me to a Surveyor's Place I answered, Nothing, if he was honest: But the said Captain presently informed this Examinant, that the said Gokyn asked him Fifty Pounds." Resolved, by the Parliament, That Mr. Samuell Gokyn do stand in this Bill as a Trustee.

Foxley's Relief.
Mr. Garland reports the Business touching Mr. Thomas Foxley.
UPON the Hearing of the Cause concerning Mr. Thomas Foxley, by virtue of an Order of the House of Commons, dated Martis, 31 Octobris 1648; forasmuch as it appeareth, That the said Mr. Foxley hath suffered much Oppression and Damage for his Service of the Publick, by Suspension from his Ministry, for Fourteen Years, formerly worth to him Two hundred Pounds per Annum; and Twenty Months Imprisonment, by virtue of a Warrant under the Hands of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Lord Coventry, the Lord Treasurer Juxon, then Bishop of London, the Lord Privy Seal, the Lord Cottington, and Secretary Windebanck: This Committee thinketh it meet, and doth order, That Sir John Maynard shall report unto the House, That the said Mr. Foxley shall have Reparations, to the Value of Three thousand Pounds, given him for his said Damage, out of the Estates of the several Parties to the Warrant aforesaid, or such other Ways and Means as the House shall approve.
Delinquents Estates.
A Proviso was tendered to this Act, in these Words; "Provided always, and be it further Enacted, That the Trustees in this Act named shall convey unto Thomas Foxley, his Heirs and Assigns, for ever, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, appointed by this Act to be sold, to the clear yearly Value of One hundred Pounds per Annum; any thing in this Act to the contrary notwithstanding:" Which was this Day read the First time.
And the Question being put, That this Proviso be read the Second time;
