Treasury warrant to the Customs Commissioners to permit the entry (without payment of the One per cent. [Mediterranean] duty) of the ship Thamisis belonging to James Houblon and John Houblon, merchants, the said ship sailing from Zante to London under convoy of the Faulcon and Foresight frigates and stopping at Tangier where four of her company were pressed into the King's service about Nov. 15 last, two of them Thomas Jones and William Betty being put on the Saphir, William Cheston on board the Crown and John Curtis on board the Calebash fireship, wherefore said ship returned to London with only 28 men, which being four short of her complement, said duty is demanded. Same to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands of Edmond Windham's petition (as by a favourable reference from the King dated Whitehall, Dec. 31, thereof): petitioner praying a grant of the King's title to the estate of William Rogers, of Marsh in the forest of Yeovil, in Somerset, an intestate bastard who left real estate to the value of 40l. per an.: petitioner having been very faithful in preserving the King's person after the battle of Worcester. Same to Phillip Burton of the petition of Seth Garrett to the King shewing that for 20 years he has been a housekeeper and butcher in Southwark and maintained himself and family in a handsome manner; that John Platts, John Petter (Potter) and James Sheene, conspired to ruin him and got 500l. from him by forged bonds for which Potter was fined 500 marks and said Platt and Sheene—each beside the pillory; that having formerly petitioned for said fines he was informed that they were before given to the Bishop of London for rebuilding St. Pauls, but in consideration of petitioner's deplorable condition his Lordship [the Bishop] is willing for him to have said fines. Cornwall, one of the four supervisors of the tin blowing houses in Cornwall and Devon loco Sampson Shackerly, deceased, to attend and survey the following blowing houses, viz., one in St. Allen, one in St. Agnes, one in Illogan, one in Redruth, one in Gwennap and one in Penryn: with power to make seizures etc. Ibid, p. 25.

Treasury warrant to the Trustees for Fee Farms to convey to Charles, Marquess of Winchester certain fee farm rents in co. Wilts, co. Southampton and London, to the value of 61l. 17s. 7½d. (being 990l. 2s. 0d. principal value at 16 years' purchase) as in lieu of several fee farms in co. Yorks which are illeviable as is certified by Auditor Aldworth 1679, July 7, same being of the annual value of 39l. 12s. 9½d., being 634l. 4s. 8d. at 16 years' purchase, together with 356l. 15s. 1½d. for nine years' arrears thereon to 1681, Lady day, making 990l. 19s. 9½d. in all, so that said Marquess loses 17s. 9½d. by this reprisal. Wilts and of the value of 26l. 16s. 7d. per an. or 429l. 5s. 4d. at 16 years' purchase: so that said Marquess loses 11s. 6½d. by this reprisal. Ibid, p. 27.

Jan. 17. Treasury reference to the Customs Commissioners of William Baynes' (Baines') petition for a place in the Customs. Reference Book I, p. 540.
Same to Mr. Hall of Sir Richard Elsworth's petition and reports thereon. Petitioner petitioned Treasurer Danby, shewing that himself and Lancelot Rider were security for John Elsworth, sub-commissioner of Excise for co. Somerset in 1661 "about Lady day, and continued till Michaelmas following, together with Hugh Stukely and Henry Lester (Leicester), who were in arrear 250l."; that petitioner was taken in execution for said debt and did with said Rider pay the same when the Excise Commissioners promised to deliver up to them said Stukley's and Leicester's bonds. Treasurer Danby referred said petition to Francis Finch and Edw. Wingate 1673, Dec. 20, who reported that said bonds ought to be delivered as promised. Said report with Elsworth's fresh petition are hereby referred as above.

Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to George Bradbury and Edward Noell, esq., of the parcel of ground commonly called the Old Artillery Ground or Old Artillery Garden, in St. Botolphs, Bishopgate on the west side of the fields or places commonly called Spittlefields and containing by admeasurement five acres one rood, as the same is now encompassed with a brick wall, and also the messuage at the south west corner of the said ground and the ground paled out for a garden to it, "which were formerly in the possession or occupation of Hanserd Knolls," and also all that great brick house standing upon the said ground, near the aforesaid messuage, which has commonly been used by the officers of the Ordnance for laying up of stores, with the garden belonging to the said storehouse [and also] two other messuages or tenements standing upon the said piece or parcels of ground near the aforesaid messuage and storehouse and also the two gardens thereto belonging [and also] all that dwelling house which has been commonly used for the habitation of the King's Master Gunner standing within the said parcel of ground, and also the stables, coach-house, porter's lodge, two powder houses, the long house or building used by the officers of the Ordnance for proving of small guns and keeping of stores and also the charging house lying contiguous to the aforesaid dwelling house, and all other houses, edifices and buildings on the said ground: together with free liberty to build thereon, and all passages, easements etc.: and the reversion of the premises and all the Crown's title or claim in or to the same: to hold to the only use of the said Bradbury and Noell, their heirs and assigns for ever as of the manor of East Greenwich, not in capite or by knights service but in free and common socage by fealty and the rent of 6s. 8d. per an. payable into the Exchequer every Michaelmas: all in consideration of the sum of 5,700l. sterling which said grantees are to pay into the Exchequer before this grant passes. Jan. 20. Treasury reference to Sir Richard Mason, Bartholomew Fillingham and Sergeant Ramsey [Agents for Taxes] of Capt. Henry Cornwall's petition to the King (on a reference from the King dated 1681, Aug. 3): petitioner shewing that his brother[-in-law] Roger Vaughan was in arrear 616l. 10s. 0d. as Receiver for Hearthmoney for co. Hereford, that he was slain at sea and his estate was pre-engaged before he had anything to do with the King's revenue: therefore prays the King to transfer said debt to petitioner's own use "with power to join with the trustees on his Majesty's behalf in all such sales as they from time to time shall proceed upon, without which the said lands cannot be sold to pay the foresaid creditors." He assures my Lords of the contrary and that you have gone over the first and second States [of the said accounts] and have seen the vouchers and the particular rates of the milreis for the several years Mr. Parry was Agent in Portugal.
