Prefixing: report dated May 9 inst. from said Cracherode on the said Nordborg's memorial. He represented the cases of five Swedish prisoners in the Marshalsea on suspicion of piracy who were discharged by Admiralty order of 14 June 1717 but afterwards detained by Mr. Darby, the keeper of said prison, for their prison fees of 1l. 13s. 4d. per man, or 8l. 6s. 8d. in all. These were paid by me March 31 last by Treasury order. Notwithstanding their enlargement Nordborg was arrested by John Winn, a sutler in the said prison, in an action of 12l. for their subsistence whilst in custody, and Nordborg was obliged to give bail to appear in the Marshall's Court, the prisoners having been deprived of their share of the prison allowance after the order for their discharge and thereupon subsisted by the said John Winn, a, sutler or cellar man to the said prison, until the time of their discharge. The victuals amount to 5l. 9s. 5d. and Winn's costs of suit are 12s. 6d. and Nordborg has since paid 6l. 1s. 11d. in settlement thereof. Nordborg's costs came to 1l. 3s. 6d., making altogether 7l. 5s. 5d. Money,Book XXVI, pp. 379–80.
