William Lowndes to the Comptrollers of Army Accounts to examine and report on the enclosed three lists [missing] signed by the Deputy Governor of Gibraltar of the number of persons victualled in that Garrison between 27 Jan. 1717–18 and 20 April 1718; as also a certificate similarly signed of the quantity of provisions laid into his Majesty's store houses there by the contractor 11 April 1718. Treasury warrant to Edward Young, Surveyor General of Woods, to defray the charge of works and repairs in Bushey Park to a total of 367l. 10s. 0d.: to be paid out of moneys arising by wood sales in his Majesty's forests, parks and chaces.
Prefixing and appending: (1) report by the Board of Works dated 31 April last on said charge; (2) details of said charges, viz. on the outside fences and bridges at the Pheasant Houses in Bushey Park. Warrants not Relating to Money XXV, pp. 93–4.
Same to same to perform works and repairs, detailed, to a total of 510l. 5s. 10d. at Swinley Lodge in Windsor Forest, on the memorial of Visct. Cobham.
Prefixing: said Young's report dated 10 May on said memorial, estimating the cost as above of said repairs. Windsor Forest is so indifferently stocked with wood that it will be impossible to raise a sum sufficient to defray the above work without great spoil: therefore it would be proper to raise same by sale of dotard and decayed trees in any other his Majesty's forest where they can be better spared. But there may be stuff enough in Braywood, part of said forest, to produce posts and rails for 114 rod and fences round the coppices. Warrants not Relating to Money XXV, pp. 100–1.
Royal sign manual dated Kensington to Charles, Duke of Bolton, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, to give order to the Receivers General and Paymasters of our revenues there to remit to Henry, Earl of Lincoln, Paymaster of the Forces in England, 2,470l. 10s. 0d. clear of all charges and deductions, being money advanced here by our directions by the said Paymaster of the Forces to enable the three Regiments of Foot commanded by Brig. Bisset, Col. James Otway and Col. Charles Otway to proceed on their voyage to Minorca; being for two months' subsistence to them according to the Establishment of Ireland, “from whence they are lately arrived”: meaning that the said sum which has been advanced accordingly should be made good to the Paymaster here by such remittance and that same be placed to the accompts of the said three Regiments in equal proportions. William Lowndes to the Navy Commissioners to make forth Navy bills for application as follows of the 1,739l. 9s. 2d. lately ordered to be issued at the Exchequer to the Navy Treasurer out of imprest money repaid by Thomas Micklethwayt, Esq., as late Treasurer for Transports: viz. to apply same to answer the like sum on bills of exchange drawn by Peter Crank, Esq., from Ireland upon account of the charge of transporting three Regiments from thence that are lately gone with the Fleet to Minorca. Treasury reference to Robert King, one of the sureties of Mr. Peters, late Receiver General of Taxes for Co. Herts, showing that on May 23 the Treasury Lords referred to the Attorney General a report made by the late Attorney General on the said Peters' debt to the Crown, but the parties who took the said report from the Treasury have not yet delivered it to the Attorney General: therefore praying that they be ordered to so carry it immediately. Royal warrant dated Kensington to the Attorney or Solicitor General to prepare a bill to pass the great seal to revoke the patent dated 1715 Nov. 15 which constituted Nicholas Vincent, Paul Burrard, John Williams, Anthony Dawley, Brian Fairfax and Sir Harcourt Masters to be commissioners for the Duties on Hides and Skins and upon Vellum and Parchment, and in lieu thereof to constitute Nicholas Vincent, Paul Burrard, John Williams, Anthony Dawley, Brian Fairfax and Francis Brace to be Commissioners thereof: during pleasure and with the salary of 500l. per an. each. Treasury warrant to the Clerk of the Pipe for a lease under the Exchequer seal to the Earl of Holderness of a piece of ground covered with rubbish, part of the ruins of Whitehall Palace abutting south on the ground and buildings of Lord Herbert, and west and north on other ruins of the said Palace, and east of the Thames, and contains 115 fee by 800 feet: for 31 years at 10l. per an.rent Prefixing: constat of the premises made out by the Surveyor General of Crown Lands and ratal thereof.

William Lowndes to the Speaker of the House of Commons. The Treasury Lords desire you will please peruse the enclosed papers [missing] which concern the demands of the late Serjeant at Arms attending the House of Commons “on account of Mr. Prior's being taken and kept in custody by him by order of the said House.” Ibid.
Same to the Attorney and Solicitor General to report on the enclosed letter [missing] which my Lords have received from the Attorney and Solicitor General in Scotland relating to several persons who have incurred the penalty of forfeiting their single and life rent escheats upon an Act of Parliament in that behalf [1 Geo. Treasury reference to the Taxes Commissioners of the petition of James Bayly, Esq., Receiver General of Taxes on Houses, Co. Stafford, shewing that he has cleared his accounts to Lady day 1718 and that no more money arising by the said Duties will come into his hands till Michaelmas next: therefore praying that he may give fresh security and have his old bonds up. June 18. Treasury reference to the Taxes Commissioners of the petition of Walter Marshall, Receiver General for the Land Tax and House Duties annis 1715 and 1716 for Co. Gloucester, praying 130l. for the like expenses in remitting his receipts. Ibid.
Same to the Attorney General of the petition of John Apletree, Esq., shewing that in December last he petitioned for a grant of the Water Bailiff of the river Severn for 31 years at the same rent and fine as was granted to Sir Thomas Monins, bart.: that the Surveyor General has thereon reported that a fine of 3,000l. and rent of 10l. per an. may be reasonable consideration: but the petitioner finds that the fishery of the said river is almost destroyed: therefore prays a grant without a fine, at the ancient rent of 10l. per an. (In the margin: referred against 20 July 1720.) Ibid.
Treasury warrant to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a constat or particular of a piece of ground at Hampton Court in order to a lease thereof to John Huggins for 31 years at 6s. 8d. per an. rent.
Prefixing: report by H. Cholmley on said Huggins' petition. The ground is a small piece taken out of the waste of the manor of Hampton, Co. Middlesex, on the south side of the road leading from Kensington to Hampton Court and abuts north on said road and on buildings belonging to said Huggins, west on a green house or arbour in his Majesty's gardens, south on the said gardens and east on the House Park or Home Park and is 145 feet by 133 feet and worth 20s. per an. The petitioner should be restrained from erecting any buildings thereon higher than his Majesty's garden wall. Warrants not Relating to Money XXV, pp. 95–6.
Royal warrant dated Kensington to the Barons of the Exchequer in Scotland to insert in the quarterly bill of the Civil Expense of Scotland an additional fee or salary of 100l. per an. to Andrew Kennedy as Conservator of the Royal privileges of the royal boroughs of Scotland in the Spanish Netherlands or Low Countries, which office is now and hath for some time been in grant to the said Kennedy for his natural life; he having petitioned for such increase in consideration of the expense of executing this office in a foreign country and maintaining the character thereof: to commence as from Lady day 1718. Royal letters patent dated Kensington appointing Charles Burniston, Esq., to be Surveyor General of Woods in America “of all and singular our woods within all and every our Colonies and Plantations on the Continent of America now growing or being or which hereafter shall or may grow and be within our said Colonies or Plantations”: with the salary of 200l. per an.: to be paid by the Treasurer of the Navy on bills to be made forth by the Navy Commissioners: all in place of John Bridger, Esq., whose commission for the same is hereby superseded and determined. And the said Burniston is hereby directed to instruct all our subjects in the said Colonies and Plantations in making pitch and tar, raising and curing of hemp and in all other matters relating to the production and manufacturing of naval stores there. To hold during pleasure and to execute the said office by himself or sufficient Deputy or Deputies. And he or his Deputies are hereby required at all convenient times and seasons in the year to view and survey all our said woods and timber and also to mark such of the said trees that now are or hereafter shall be fit to be taken for the use of our Navy and to keep a Register of the same; transmitting half yearly an account of his proceedings herein to the Admiralty Commissioners, to one of the Secretaries of State, to the Treasury Lords and the Commissioners of Trade and Plantations: and further to observe and follow all such orders and directions “as we have or shall sign in this behalf” or as he shall receive from the Admiralty, Treasury, or Plantations Commissioners or either of the Principal Secretaries of State. And all Governors, Lieut. Governors, Justices of the Peace, Constables and all other Civil Officers in the said Colonies and Plantations are to assist, promote and encourage the said Burniston or his Deputies in due execution of their duty: the King reposing special trust in the skill and integrity of the said Burniston in directing and instructing the inhabitants of New England and other Colonies and Plantations in America in the best methods of making tar, raising and curing hemp and producing and working all other naval stores “and for preserving the woods from spoil and for rendering the several Acts of Parliament relating thereto more effectual.” King's Warrant Book XXIX, pp. 170–1.

Same to the Barons of the Exchequer in Scotland of the petition of John Leigh of Whitehaugh shewing that his predecessors have been tenants these many years to the Bishop of Aberdeen and his redendo is for the most part Customs which after the Act of Restraint were converted to nigh three times the prices that his predecessors paid: therefore prays an order to the Exchequer [in Scotland] to exact no more but the old fee Duty, which will amount to about 10l. sterling yearly, “as also him and his heirs to present a minister for the church of Tillenssel when vacant during the vacancy of Bishops [of Aberdeen], the parish being but small and he paying four fifths of the stipend.” Out Letters (North Britain) IV, p. 331.
June 20. Letter of direction in the form of a letter from C. Stanhope to the Auditor of the Receipt. The Treasury Lords desire that (out of loans in the Receipt on credit of the Land Tax anno 1718 you issue 34,564l. 8s. 0d. to Henry, Earl of Lincoln, on the unsatisfied order in his name as Paymaster General of the Forces: and is intended to be applied for Half Pay upon account for half a year to 1718 June 24 to such Officers as are found qualified by the present examination of the Commissioners and General Officers appointed for that purpose: and is to be esteemed as part of the 94,000l. granted [by Parliament] to his Majesty for Half Pay for the year 1718 upon account to the reduced Officers of his Majesty's Land Forces and Marines. Prefixing: Memorial from Lord Cobham, Constable of Windsor Castle and Warden of the [Windsor] Forest, shewing that two several actions at law have been commenced this term against Baptist Nun, one at the suit of Mr. Saint John, the other at that of Mr. Waterman, for having taken away some guns and nets and other instruments for the destruction of game within the said Forest. “What was done by the said Nun and Webb was done by virtue of my warrants as Warden of the Forest in support of his Majesty's right which I have very good grounds to believe is unquestionable in this case.
