De Beneficiis Vacantibus.
Prid. Non. Nov. (4 Nov.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 115r.) |
To the archdeacon of Killala (Alladen.), and John Offlangale and Thomas Omurchiu, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Maurice Oduda, clerk, of the diocese of Killala, that John Macgranteor (?), (fn. 2) perpetual vicar de Ymlechiseell in the said diocese, when provision was by papal letters ordered to be made to him of the said vicarage (then void by the death of Donald Oluachi, and so long void that its collation had lapsed to the apostolic see), made a bargain with one of the papal judges, that if the latter would without further information make him provision of the said vicarage, deliver sentence in his favour, and induct him, he would pay him a sum of money, thereby incurring sentences of excommunication for simony, after which the said judge made him collation and provision, under pretext of which he obtained possession, and has held it, but not for more than a year. The pope therefore orders the above three, if Maurice will accuse John before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to declare the said collation and provision null, and remove John, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value 6 marks sterling, to Maurice. Vite ac morum. (At the end: A. xv. Sexto decimo Kal. Januarii anno primo. Garilliati). [2½ pp.] |
