Pleading: John, abbot of St Osyth, states that on 4 March 1447 Humphrey Hayford, together with John Delabere, forcibly broke his close and house at St Osyth and took and carried away goods worth 40m, namely 6 broad pieces of unminted silver, one broad piece of worked and gilded silver, and two finished pieces of worked and gilded silver, against the peace and to his damage of £40.

Pleading: HH denies force and arms and breaking the house and close. Both parties on the country. And concerning the taking and carrying away of the goods, he states that the abbot ought not maintain his action, since he says that on this day John Delabere brought these goods into his shop in the parish of St Edmund in Langbourn ward in London, and he bought them for a price agreed between them, and paid this to JD. And the abbot, pretending that JD had granted him the goods before this purchase, sought to come and take them away, which HH refused to allow. He did not take them from the abbot, as the abbot has claimed.

Pleading: The abbot, not acknowledging anything said by HH and protesting that JD took these goods at St Osyth with the full knowledge and encouragement of HH, states that HH responsible for this taking of goods in Essex as claimed.
