Entry of the proceedings of a Council [of Virginia],
held at James City on this day : present : Rt.
Honble. Francis Nicholson, Lieut. Governor, William
Bird, John Lear, Edward Hill, Edmund Jennings,
Christo. Robinson, Henry Whiting and Henry
Hartwell, esqrs.
Major Richard Inglesby, Commander in Chief
of the Province of New York, in a letter to the
Lieut. Gov. [of Virginia], setting forth the miserable
condition of that [New York] Government and
the great danger they were in of losing Albany [if
left] without a supply, and this Government [being]
willing to show their readiness to promote and
defend their Majesties' interest, immediately ordered
Mr. Auditor Bird to pay to the Honble. Step. Van
Cortlandt, one of the Council of that [New York]
Province, 100l. sterling for the assistance of that
Government against their Majesties' enemies : but
for that this county hath been and still is at great
charge in maintaining Rangers at the heads of all
our great rivers to prevent, as much as possible,
this country from the danger of the Indians, who
have several times been doing mischief, Mr. William
Blathwayt is therefore desired, if the Government
of New York use the money, to procure that Mr.
Auditor Bird be re-allowed the same out of their
Majesties' revenue of quit rents due in this Colony
[of Virginia]. |

they desire that said sum be forthwith paid to
Bowes without any further trouble. |

Treasury reference to Mr. Aaron Smith [Treasury
Solicitor] of the petition of Sir John Collins, showing
that he paid several sums to the Crown as security
for Sir William Doyley, bart., deceased, and in
February, 1690-1, obtained a Treasury warrant to
prosecute in the Crown's name the debts due from
said Doyley to the Crown and to have half what
he should recover ; that [thereon] he has prosecuted
the baronet fee of 1,095l. due from said Doyley
and is in a fair way to bring that sum into the
