Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General
for a great seal for a grant to William, Earl of
Portland, and his heirs and assigns for ever of the
mansion, palace or capital messuage or the late
mansion etc., with the appurtenances called
Theobald's House in the parish of Cheshunt, co.
Berks, and all the park or late park called Theobald's
Park and other premises as follows : all as formerly
granted to George, late Duke of Albemarle, and all
the buildings whatsoever which since the date of
said grant have been erected thereon. The present
grant to be in free and common socage at the rent
of 13s. 4d. per an. : together with all the mesne
profits thereof grown due since the death of
Christopher, Duke of Albemarle.
Appending : particular of the premises and memorandum
by Auditor J. Phelips. The capital messuage
contains 30 acres. The appurtenant lands in
Cheshunt, Enfield, Waltham and Northall of 2,508
acres in all (enclosed in said park and purchased
from Sir Thomas Dacres and Thomas Dacres, esq.,
his son), are in the several tenures of Susanna,
Lady Forster, widow, Alice Farrington, widow,
Humfry Walcott, gent., Thomas Lewen, Robert
Lewen, Richard Hall, John Campe, Anthony
Munday, Mountan' Jennings, Richard Long, Henry
Cooke and Gedion Feild. The premises also include
the tithes of Cheshunt, the rectory of Cheshunt
purchased from Henry Atkins, Dr. of Medicine,
and there are separate lodges in the tenure of John
Charge, Thomas Dell (Bulcroft Gate), Thomas
Rante (Cheshunt Gate), Roger Lowen. |
