do now desire he will take care to have somebody ... (struck
through).
Ordered that Col. Cooper have 20l. out of secret service until
his business can be despatched.

through) ; any sum not exceeding 2,000l. at Chester and Liverpool ;

payments to Anth. Rowe, esq.
Write Sir R. Howard, Auditor of the Receipt, to take in from
Mr. Evans by way of loan in pieces of eight, at the rates mentioned
in a former letter, any sums not exceeding 40,000l. in the whole.
Write to the Customs Commissioners for an answer to the letter
sent them about money which my Lords were informed to be
exported by several persons (carried on board two galleys last
Friday by some Jews, according to Mr. Cory's information).
Write to Mr. Harbord to appoint someone to be at the Exchequer
to-morrow morning, as Mr. Evans is appointed to pay
in his pieces of eight then.
Sir C. Porter to attend on Friday afternoon next.
A warrant [ordered] to Mr. Bowers to make a puncheon for the
half guineas and to work it in the Mint : the warrant to cite the
Mint officers' presentment concerning the Roetiers, and to be
shewn to the Attorney General for his opinion.
Mr. [Serjeant] Ryley to go to Hounslow Heath on Thursday
next to view the damages the Earl of Berkeley pretends to have
suffered there by the encampment ; and to call on Sir H. Capell

Write the East India Company to let the Ordnance officers
survey the several parcels of saltpetre proposed to be sold to

Sir C. Porter called in about Mr. Evelyn's business and did
engage that if he don't pay Mr. Evelyn 600l. within three weeks
after the first day of next term then he will consent to a sequestration
of the profits of the office and will be accountable for such
profits for the next term.

The Earl of Ranelagh is to give order to Col. Billingslea
(Billingsley) at Berwick to pay what remains in his hands of the
money lodged there by the Commissioners of the Army to Major
General Mackay for the three Dutch Regiments now in Scotland.
The Irish establishment is to commence from July 1 inst.
Sir Michl. Cole to have 100l. out of secret service.
The King orders that the Commissioners of Prizes shall be
under the direction of the Treasury Board ; and my Lords are
to take care to have it put into such a method as is fitting for the
King's service.

service ; to be paid to the Earl of Nottingham in part of his
purchase money for Kensington House.

the whole) same shall be answered into the Exchequer by Mr.
William Harbord on their respective accounts as Receivers ;
they taking Shales's acquittances for same as received by order
of said Harbord, and drawing bills on him for same (and sending
the said bills to you, the Taxes Agents) ; according to the directions
of the Acts of Parliament [for the said Assessments].

out and replaced by) Mr. Wright the 6,000l. issued to him
[Harbord] last week for the provisions for the Irish Army.
Agreed with the Earl of Montague that if he procure 6,000l.
[to be paid into the Exchequer] upon loan within a month it
shall be issued to him for the service of the Great Wardrobe.
Ordered that 990l. be issued to me [William Jephson] for secret
service to be by me paid to Mr. Rowe to discharge some loans
made to his Majesty when Prince in the west.

In the case between Kemp and Martin concerning the searchership
of Plymouth, counsel on both sides were heard and Mr.
Stephens' petition was read. My Lords ordered Kemp to be kept
in possession. But on Martin's suggestion of corruption in the
obtaining of Kemp's grant, write the Attorney [General] to enquire
thereof and if he suspect that the place was obtained by purchase,
then to bring a scire facias against Kemp's patent.

My Lords to consider of two or three persons to be presented
to the King as Comptrollers on Mr. Shales [the Commissary
General and his accounts]. Enquire if Mr. William Robinson
be a fit person to be employed in that service.
Mr. Hornby, the goldsmith, was called in. He proposed to
the King to advance by way of loan 10,000l. in pieces of eight [by]
weight at 4s. 9d. the piece and guineas at 22d. [agio] to which the
King did agree.
Alderman Duncomb was called in and proposed to advance to
the King by way of loan 15,700l. in guineas at 2s. [agio] ; but
it was agreed that he should have 22d. as Mr. Hornby is to have.
