De Diversis Formis.
1467. 11 Kal. Nov. (22 Oct.) St. Mark's, Rome. (f. 57.) |
To all the brethren of the confraternity, called the gild, of Holy Trinity, in the town (ville) of Lenne Episcopi, in the diocese of Norwich. Indult, at their recent petition (containing that they maintain at their own expense a number of priests bound to celebrate daily, both in their chapel and in other fit and honest places appointed for the purpose, and that the ordinaries often remove them from the said office, and place them in parish churches in the stead of their absent rectors, and compel them to serve such churches, even against their will, to the prejudice of the said confraternity), that such of the said priests as are truly in the service of the said confraternity shall not be bound nor compelled to serve the said churches, or be removed from the said services, but the pope does not otherwise exempt them from the jurisdiction of their ordinaries. Exigit devocionis sinceritas. (P. and A. de Cortesiis. | P. lxx. de Varris.) [1⅓ pp. See above, p. 603.] |

To Richard Keayll, rector of the parish church of St. Andrew, Ringsted Magna, bachelor of canon law, of the diocese of Norwich. Dispensation to receive and retain for life together with the said church (value not expressed), any one other benefice, or if he resign that church any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if they be parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, or major or principal dignities, etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases. Litterarum sciencia, vite etc. (P. and A. de Cortesiis. | P. l. de Varris.) [3 pp.] |
1467[–8]. 5 Non. March. (3 March.) St. Mark's, Rome. (f. 65d.) |
To the abbot de Benedictione dei, alias de Kylbegan, and the priors of Durvach and Kylkay, in the diocese of Meath. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Thomas Ruth alias Megruherc, clerk, of the diocese of Meath, doctor of canon law, contained that after he had been dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest (prior of a hospital of St. John of Jerusalem) and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and after he had obtained the [perpetual] vicarage of the parish church of Drumrane in the said diocese, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, and had been received by the same authority as a canon of Clonmacnoise (Cluanen.), he held for seven years the said vicarage (erected into a prebend of Clonmacnoise for that period only, and collated to him anew by the said ordinary authority), together with the said canonry, which has no fruits, and has also held it after the said seven years, as he does still. The said petition adding that if the said vicarage were erected into a prebend of the said church of Clonmacnoise, and that if provision were made to him of a canonry of Clonmacnoise and of such erected prebend, divine worship in the said church of Clonmacnoise would be improved, etc., the pope hereby orders the above three to summon the chapter of Clonmacnoise and others concerned, and if they find the facts to be as stated, to erect the said vicarage, value not exceeding 12l. sterling, into a prebend of Clonmacnoise, and to collate and assign it, thus erected, and also a canonry of Clonmacnoise, to the said Thomas, who was subsequently dispensed by papal authority to receive the rectory of the parish church of Kylbery in the said diocese of Meath (provision of which was ordered by papal authority to be made to him, and of which he is in possession, and about which he is litigating, and the value of which does not exceed 40l. sterling), and together with it one other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if another parish church or its perpetual vicarage, or a major or principal dignity, etc., and also any other benefices with and without cure, of any number and kind, compatible with one another and with the aforesaid two incompatible benefices, and to retain the said incompatible benefices for five years only if they were two parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, or if not for life, and to resign them all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased. If Thomas resigns or dies or obtains another prebend in the church of Clonmacnoise, the said erection shall be revoked, and the said vicarage return to its original state. Ad ea per que. (P. and N. de Castello. | P. xxii. Quinto Id.Martii Anno Quarto. de Varris.) [5 pp.] |
1467[–8]. Kal. Feb. (1 Feb.) St. Mark's, Rome. (f. 86.) |
To Vincent Clementis, canon of Valencia, S.T.M., a subdeacon of the pope. Decree, as below. The pope exemplifies from the Register of Pius II that pope's letters (i) Grata devocionis obsequia, addressed as above, and dated at St. Peter's, Rome, 1462, 10 Kal. Jan. anno 5 [23 Dec., 1462], setting forth that whereas Hector de Cocquerel, canon of Rouen, doubted the validity of a collation and provision made to him by authority of the ordinary of the parish church of St. Peter de Montfort in the diocese of Rouen, and that the said Vincent had given up to the pope all his right in or to the said church, collation of which he claimed to have been made to him, the pope had that day by other letters ordered provision to be made of the said church to the said Hector, and therefore assigned to Vincent a yearly life pension on its fruits etc. of 120 new gold écus of France, to be paid in the Roman court by the said Hector and his successors; with the usual sanctions for delay in payment, etc. (ii) Hodie dilecto filio, addressed to the chancellor of Chartres and the officials of Rouen and Evreux, and dated as above, being the usual concurrent mandate executory. |
The pope furthermore decrees that the present exemplification shall everywhere have the same force as the original letters. Provisionis nostre. (P. and A. de Cortesii[s]. P.xx. Kal. Februarii Anno Quarto. de Varris.) [6 pp.] | |

To Elias Bell, clerk, of the diocese of Durham. Dispensation to him, who is in or about his eighteenth year, so that as soon as he attains his twentieth year he may receive and retain any benefice with cure, provided that it be not a parish church or its perpetual vicarage, and that when he attains his twenty-first year he may hold such a benefice, even if it be a parish church etc., and may resign it, simply or for exchange, when he pleases. Vite etc. (N. and Ja.Prats. N. xx. de Bonaparte.) [1 p. +.] |
1467[–8]. 13 Kal. Feb. (20 Jan.) St. Mark's, Rome. (f. 171d.) |
To James Porter, archdeacon of Kells (de Kenlys) in the church of Meath, bachelor of canon law. Litterarum etc. (Hug. and P. de Godis. | Hug.xl. Folani, prothon. Bisuntin.) [1 p. +.] |

1467. 8 Id. Nov. (6 Nov.) St. Mark's, Rome. (f. 308d.) |
To the bishop of Chichester. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of John Scot, knight, lord of the manor de la Mote, in the diocese of Chichester, contained that the buildings of the chapel of St. Mary, situate on the gate of the said manor, (fn. 3) and of the patronage of the lord of the said manor for the time being, are in need of very great repair; that on account of its exceeding great age and other misfortunes it would have entirely fallen and become desolate if the said knight had not maintained it, and did not at present maintain it to some extent (fn. 4); and that its fruits etc. are so slight that they are not sufficient for its repair and rebuilding. The said petition adding that if it were rebuilt on a smaller site, (fn. 5) and the rest of its original precincts converted to profane uses, and divine offices occasionally celebrated, divine worship would be manifestly increased, (fn. 6) the pope hereby orders the above bishop, if he find the facts to be as stated, to grant licence and faculty to the said knight (with the consent of the rector of the said chapel, and after the said knight has assigned for the augmentation of its endowment, over and above its said fruits etc., revenues sufficient for the maintenance of the present and future rectors) to rebuild the said chapel on a smaller but otherwise suitable site, and to convert the rest of its old site to such profane uses as he shall think fit. (fn. 5) Justis et honestis supplicum votis. (N. and M. Amici. | N. xx. de Bonaparte.) [1½ pp.] |
