4 Paul II.

De Beneficiis Vacantibus.

1467[–8].
Id. Jan.
(13 Jan.)
St. Mark's, Rome.
(f. 88d.)
To the abbot de Benedictione dei, alias de Kylbegryn (sic), in the diocese of Meath. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by John Osluoid, priest, of the diocese of Meath, that John Fytzeuone (recte Fytzeuene), perpetual vicar of the parish church of Castletown (Villecastri) de Delwyn, in the said diocese, a notorious fornicator, has dilapidated and converted to his own evil uses a number of the precious goods of the said church, and has committed perjury. The pope therefore hereby orders the above abbot, if Osluoid will accuse the said Fitzeuone before him, to summon Fitzeuone and others concerned, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, to Osluoid. Dignum arbitramur. (N. and A. de Cortesiis. | N. xxii. Expedita Tertio Idus Februarii Anno Quarto. de Bonaparte.) [3 pp.+.]
1467[–8].
8 Kal. March.
(22 Feb.)
St. Mark's, Rome.
(f. 286d.)
To the bishop of Massa [Maritima], the abbot of Holyrood [Edinburgh], and the dean of Dumbar, in the diocese of St. Andrews. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of David Swinton, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, contained that on the voidance of a perpetual chaplaincy in the church of the place of Corstorphyn, in the said diocese, which chaplaincy is of the patronage of the lord of the same place according to a certain turn, by the death of William Forman, Alexander Forstarii, layman, nobleman, lord of the said place, patron of the said chaplaincy, presented the said David to Patrick, bishop of St. Andrews. The pope, having learned that the said chaplaincy is still void as above, (fn. 2) hereby orders the above three to collate and assign it, without cure and endowed with the mesne fruits of the places of Haulton and Dalmahowe, belonging to the said church, and value not exceeding 8l. sterling, to David. Vite etc. (N. and A. de Cortesiis. | N. xxii. Expedita viiio Idus Martii Anno Quarto. de Bonaparte.) [3 pp.]
Ibid.
(f. 290.)
To William Fergusii, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Crawmonde in the diocese of Dunkeld, bachelor of canon law. Collation and provision of the said vicarage, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the resignation of James Kennedi, made to the pope by his proctor, James Inglis, priest, of the diocese of Glasgow. Litterarum sciencia, vite etc.
Concurrent mandate to the abbot of Holyrood de Edymburgh, the provost of the secular and collegiate church of Rorstorphin (recte Korstorphin), in the diocese of St. Andrews and the archdeacon of Huete in the church of Cuenca (Conchen.). Hodie dilecto filio. ([Hug.] and Ja.Prats, Jo. de Godis. | Hug. xii. x. Expedita Sexto Idus Marcii Anno Quarto. Folani, prothon. Bisuntin.) [22/3 pp.]

Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern description in Latin: 1467–68. An. iv. Paulus ii. (corrected from iii.). A contemporary end-paper has the contemporary description: Primus de benefitiis vacantibus anno quarto domini nostri domini Pauli pape ii., the order ‘R(ecipe) W. (apparently written upon ‘Co,’ which it therefore obscures), P.,’ and the answering ‘Rubricatus est per me Withelmum Molitoris,’ two unimportant contemporary ‘Quesivit’ notes, and one or two scribbles. Mgr. Wenzel's numerical description does not occur. The above contemporary description ‘Primus de beneficiis…’ appears also, as usual, on the bottom edge of the volume. There are ff. i.–cccx. of text, + f. cccxi. blank. The above ‘Wilhelmus Molitoris clericus Leodiensis diocesis’ was appointed on 8 Dec., 1467 (6 Id. Dec. anno 4) to the ‘locus unius ex clericis in Registro litterarum apostolicarum scribentibus,’ void by the resignation of ‘Matheus de Ruya, nuper ipsius Registri clericus scribens, et infra numerum inibi scribentium clericorum existens’ (Reg. Lat. DCLXI, f. 186.)
It is not stated whether the bishop instituted David or not. At any rate it is not explained why the chaplaincy was still void.
