To the prior of the monastery of Inysfaleynd, wont to be governed by a prior, in the diocese of Ardfert, the chancellor of Ardfert and Thady Oduie, (fn. 2) a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Matthew Ofahwe, treasurer of Ardfert, that Thomas Ogallwan, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Kaher alias Inisdaslevoc in the diocese of Ardfert, has openly kept an unmarried woman as his concubine, even after having been admonished by the ordinary to put her away and abstain from such adultery, and has dilapidated etc. and converted to evil uses the goods of the said vicarage, to the shame of the clerical order; and the recent petition of the said Matthew containing that if the vicarage were united to the said treasurership for his life he could be more becomingly maintained, and that it would be to the honour of the church of Ardfert (fn. 3) ) to summon those concerned, and if they find the facts to be as stated, and also if and after Matthew, who is of noble race, and cannot live becomingly from the fruits of the said treasurership, accuses Thomas before the above three, to summon Thomas and others concerned, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Thomas, and in that event, and if the ordinary consent, to unite the vicarage, which has cure and whose value does not exceed 10 marks sterling, to the treasurership, value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, for Matthew's life, and moreover to collate and assign the vicarage to him; notwithstanding that he holds a certain parcel, without cure, of lands which are wont to be assigned as the title of a perpetual benefice, (fn. 4) value not exceeding 1 mark sterling. Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Fitzmoris, clerk, of the diocese of Ardfert, who, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of a deacon and an unmarried woman, has been made a clerk, the perpetual vicarage of the parish church of Dubach in the said diocese, value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, void because John Neyl, having obtained it by canonical collation, held possession for more than a year without having himself ordained priest, and without dispensation, summoning and removing William Neyl, priest, who in contempt of the admonitions of the ordinary has detained it for about two years, and still detains it, without any title. Thomas is hereby dispensed to be promoted to all even holy orders and receive and retain it, notwithstanding the said defect etc.Dignum etc. (Her. and [A. de] Cortesiis. \| Her. xxii.Septimo Id. 1463[–4]. Non. Feb. (5 Feb.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 198.)	To Miles (Miloni), elect of Leighlin. Faculty for him, to whom the pope has recently (pridem) made provision of the said church, to be consecrated by any catholic bishop assisted by two or three like bishops, and for such bishop to administer such consecration, after first receiving from Miles the usual oath of fealty according to the form appended. If such bishop presume to consecrate him, or if Miles presume to receive consecration, without the bishop's having first received the said oath, the said bishop shall be eo ipso suspended from the pontifical office and both he and Miles from the administration of their churches. Miles is, as soon as possible, to send to the pope by his own envoy his said oath, by his letters patent sealed with his seal, (fn. 5) without prejudice to the archbishop of Dublin, to whom the said church is by metropolitical right subject. Dispensation to receive with the said church, value not exceeding 12l. sterling, any one other benefice, or without it any two other benefices, with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if parish churches or their perpetual vicarages or dignities etc., and to retain them for five years in the case of parish churches or their perpetual vicarages, or for life if other incompatible benefices, and to resign them, simply or for exchange [as often as he pleases].Grata devotionis (fn. 6) obsequia. 1464. 3 Id. Aug. (11 Aug.) Ancona. (f. 301d.)	To the abbot of St. Thomas the Martyr's and the prior of All Saints without the walls of Dublin. Mandate as below. The recent petition of William Talbot, prior of the house or hospital of St. John Baptist's without the walls of Dublin, of the order of Crossed friars (ordinis Cruciferorum) living under the rule of St. Augustine, contained that although he has always studied to be of good life and conversation, and has not been defamed of any crime, nevertheless, the present pope, circumvented by the false report of Richard Hediane, clerk, of the diocese of Cashel, to the effect that William had perpetrated a number of excesses and crimes then expressed, ordered the dean of Leighlin, his name not being expressed, if Richard accused William before the said dean, and if he found the said statements to be true, to deprive and remove William, and collate and assign the priory to Richard; that David, dean of the said church, proceeding to execution, cited William to appear before him, in a place very and even notoriously suspect to William, in order to answer to the foregoing, and, although it was signified to the said dean on William's behalf that the said place was not safe for him, William, inasmuch as the dean unjustly refused to appoint him another place, appealed to the apostolic see but, lawfully hindered, has not prosecuted the appeal within the lawful time, wherefore he has petitioned the pope, notwithstanding the lapse of the said time, to commit the causes of the appeal and of the principal matter to some upright men in those parts. The pope therefore orders the above two, if they find what is alleged about the said impediment to be true, notwithstanding the said lapse to summon Richard and others concerned, hear both sides, taking cognisance also of the principal matter, and decide what is just without appeal, causing their decision to be observed by ecclesiastical censure, without appeal.
