Mandate to collate and assign to James Bortwic, (fn. 2) priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, bachelor of canon law, who is of noble birth and of a race of barons, the parish church of Lochqworwart (also written ‘Lochqwarwart’) in the said diocese, value not exceeding 9l. sterling, void because Peter de Orichton (fn. 3) (rectius Crichton), when holding it, obtained by collation of the ordinary the parish church of Kynuile in the said diocese. To the bishop of Alessandria, the precentor (cantori) of Moray and the treasurer of Brechin. Mandate to collate and assign to Gilbert Forstar, archdeacon of Brechin, a papal chaplain, who is also a papal acolyte and M.A., in consideration of his services to the pope and the apostolic see, the chapel of St. Mary Magdalen of the place of Arrate in the diocese of Brechin, without cure and value not exceeding 3l. sterling, void by the death of John de Atoha (rectius At[h]olia), its rector; whether it be so void, or be void by the deaths of David de Dw or John Brekbel or in any other way, and notwithstanding that he holds the said archdeaconry, which is a non-major dignity with cure, and a canonry and prebend of Moray, called the succentorship, the value of all which does not exceed 45l. sterling, and that provision was lately made to him by papal authority of the vicarage of Dunde in the said diocese of Brechin, value not exceeding 29l. sterling, of which he is not in possession and about which, in the course of litigation in the Roman court, he has won a definitive sentence against certain adversaries, which has become a res judicata, and that he was lately dispensed by papal authority to receive and retain for life with the said archdeaconry any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if a parish church or its perpetual vicarage or a dignity etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, and hold instead two other incompatible benefices, provided that they were not two parish churches [or their perpetual vicarages]. To Malachy Ma[c]conmara, canon of Killaloe (Laonien.). Mandate to collate and assign to Donatus Macconmara, clerk, of the diocese of Killaloe (who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary, on account of illegitimacy as the son of an unmarried nobleman and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to minor orders and hold a benefice without cure) the perpetual vicarage of Kyllathnasuleach and the rectory without cure in ecclesiastical fee called [the rectory] of Clonlochayn in the said diocese, value not exceeding 8 and 1 marks sterling respectively, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the death there of Matthew [son] of James Macconmara. To William Lindesay, perpetual vicar of the parish church of Inchbrayock (Insule sancti Brioci) in the diocese of St. Andrews. Dispensation, at his recent petition—containing that he was successively dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, (i) to be promoted to all even holy orders and hold a benefice with or without cure, (ii) after he had been made a clerk, to hold another benefice with or without cure, even if a canonry and prebend of other than a cathedral church, (fn. 5) and (iii) after he had obtained the above vicarage, value not exceeding 8l. sterling, and had been promoted to all even holy orders, to receive and retain a canonry and prebend of Aberdeen and the like of Moray, of which he is not in possession, value not exceeding 24l. (fn. 6) sterling, in the event of their being collated to him in virtue of papal letters ordering provision to be made to him thereof—so that he, who is a licentiate in arts and a kinsman of many nobles and barons of Scotland, may receive and retain any benefices with and without cure, of any number and kind, compatible with one another and with the aforesaid, even if canonries and prebends, dignities etc., and resign all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.
