9 Eugenius IV (cont.)
De Diversis Formis.
1439[–40]. 12 Kal. Feb. Florence (f. 2.) |
To William Symond, rector of Staunton Harecourt in the diocese of Lincoln, bachelor of canon law. Grant and dispensation as below. Martin V dispensed him to hold for five years with the parish church of Muresley in the diocese of Lincoln any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if another parish church etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased; and, upon his setting forth to the said pope that in virtue of the said letters he had obtained the perpetual vicarage of Ambresdon in the said diocese, and had held it for some time with Muresley, and that, having resigned the said vicarage he had obtained the parish church of Bukynhull in the said diocese, and that the end of the said period was at hand, the said pope prolonged it by other seven years; and upon its being set forth on his behalf to the present pope that in virtue of the said other letters he had successively resigned Muresley and Bukynhull and obtained Staunton Harecourt and Stanlake in the said diocese, the pope prolonged the said seven years to William's life, by letters in which it was stated that he was of noble race and a completed (fn. 2) bachelor of canon law, and that the value of the said two churches did not exceed 40 and 20 marks sterling respectively. At his recent petition (containing that he is not of noble birth, that although he is a bachelor of canon law he is not a completed bachelor, and that the said value is not in marks but in pounds sterling, and that therefore, as also because the said letters do not mention that he was holding at the date thereof a canonry and prebend in Lismore, value not exceeding 10l. sterling, he fears that they may be held surreptitious) the pope grants that his said letters and their consequences shall nevertheless hold good from the date thereof, and dispenses him to hold two incompatible benefices for life, even if two dignities etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, etc. notwithstanding his late ordinance to the contrary [see above, p. 5], etc. Litterarum etc. (An. and G. de Elten. | An. l. Tercio Non. Januarii Anno Duodecimo. de Adria.) [3¼ pp. See Cal Lett. VII, pp. 280, 501, and above, p. 43.] |

1439[–40]. 3 Non. March. Florence (f. 4.) |
To Robert Matfen, rector of North Luffenham in the diocese of Lincoln. Dispensation to him, who is a master in grammar, to hold for life with the said church, value not exceeding 40l. sterling (besides which he holds the mastership of the hospital of St. Leonard, Leicester, and a canonry and the eleventh prebend of the new collegiate church of Leicester, value not exceeding 40l. and 20l. respectively) any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, or, if he resign them, any two other benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if two parish churches etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, notwithstanding the above ordinance, etc. Litterarum etc. (An. and pro Jacobo de Ugolinis, G. de Elten. | An. l. Correcta (fn. 3) duodecimo Kal. Junii Anno Tercio-decimo. de Adria.) |
1439. 5 Kal. May. Florence (f. 11.) |
To James Attehoke, rector of All Saints, Westbere, in the diocese of Canterbury, bachelor of canon law. Dispensation to hold for life the said church, value not exceeding 28 marks sterling, and any other benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if another parish church etc. and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, notwithstanding the above ordinance, etc. Litterarum etc. (An. and B. de Monte. | An. xxxxvi. de Adria.) (The letter is cancelled with strokes, and in the margin is: 'Cor[recta] de mandato domini C. Arimin., An. [de Adria]' and 'Cassata et alibi registrata de mandato domini C. Ariminen. An. de Adria.') [See above, p. 61.] |
1439[–40]. 3 Kal. Feb. Florence (f. 24.) |
To John Pedewell, rector of Wynterborne Stepelton in the diocese of Salisbury. Grant that the dispensation granted to him by the present pope on 3 Id. April anno 9 [1439, above, p. 62] (to hold for life with the said church, value not exceeding 10l. sterling, any benefice with cure or otherwise incompatible, or, if he resigned them, any two other benefices with cure or otherwise incompatible, even if two parish churches etc., and to resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased) shall hold good, as well as its consequences, as if it did not state that he was of noble race, which, as his recent petition contained, he cannot fully prove. Vite etc. (An. and Pizolpassis. | An. xvi. de Adria.) |
10 Eugenius IV.
1439[–40 (fn. 4) ]. 5 Id. March. Florence (f. 74.) |

1440[–1]. 4 Non. March. Florence (f. 81) |
To Hugh Blakton, clerk, of the diocese of Dublin. Grant, at his recent petition—containing that on the voidance of the canonry and prebend of Swords (de Swerdys) by the resignation to archbishop Richard of William Cruys, the said archbishop made collation and provision thereof to Hugh, who was then attaining (tunc ... attingebas) his twentieth year; and adding that by the statutes of Dublin the said prebend is sacerdotal and can only be collated to a priest or to one who can be ordained priest within a year, and that under pretext of the said collation and provision he obtained the said canonry and prebend and still detains them, taking the fruits—the said collation and provision being null, and the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 53 marks sterling, being still void as above, that the said collation and provision shall hold good from the present date, as if at the time thereof he, who is in or about the said year, had been a priest; with indult hereby to hold them without being bound to be ordained priest before reaching the lawful age. Ad ea ex apostolice. (B. and Ja. Goier. | B. xxii. Pridie Non. Novembris Anno Undecimo. Valven.) |
