Commission and mandate to ascertain the facts touching William de Lutton, canon of Gisburn, who, when in minor orders, and living in the world, is alleged to have laid violent hands on Stephen de Lutton, who was attacking him and his father, striking him on the cheek with an iron shod stick, so that, after taking medicine, Stephen lost his right eye. There is a doubt whether this loss was caused by the doctor's want of skill or by the blow. If it appears that William had no intention to injure Stephen, a dispensation is to be granted him touching orders of subdeacon and deacon that he has received. |
