Mandate, to cite William de la Mare to appear before the pope, with the acts and muniments touching the treasurership of York. This was held by the late Francis Caetano, papal chaplain, between whom and Walter de Bedewinde there had been a suit about it; Walter made several appeals to the pope, and died pendente lite. Francis determined to marry, and the treasurership was reserved to the pope, who gave it to Peter, cardinal of St. Stephen's on the Cælian, ordering William de la Mare, or any other detainer of the same to be removed. Opposition was made to this, and William disregarded the sentence issued against him, and ill-treated those who came to execute it; whereupon he and his abettors were excommunicated, and the present mandate is issued.
