Treasurer Godolphin to Sir William Beeston to pay to the Agent of Brigadier Selwin's Regiment 20 per cent. on the 1566l. 12s. 3d. supplied by you (when Governor of Jamaica) for the subsistence of the said Regiment in Jamaica, you having computed the money of the said Island at par with English money during the time you paid the said subsistence whereas the said money is 20 per cent. difference, you having in reimbursement drawn bills on Gilbert Heathcote, merchant in London, for the said sum "which was paid him in sterling money by Lord Coningsby and the Regiment [was thereupon] charged with the current exchange from Ireland to London (being 10 per cent.) being warranted so to do by reason the Regiments in the West Indies are by the Establishment of Ireland to be paid out of the revenues of that Kingdom": and the said Lord Coningsby is of opinion you should be charged with the said 20 per cent. since Sir Bartho. Gracedieu by agreement with the late Treasury Lords allows that rate for money delivered in London repayable in Jamaica. You are therefore due to make good the said 20 per cent. to said Regiment.
