William Lowndes to the remitters of exchange to Holland. My Lords agree to your proposal of the 26th inst. for remitting 100,000l. for the Forces in the Low Countries, to wit by bills on Amsterdam at 2½ usance and on Antwerp at sight at 10 guilders 4 stivers current money: to be repaid by 20,000l. in tallies and orders on the fourteenth 4s. Aid (after 1,700,000l. registered thereon) and the balance out of the first money arising by the intended Lottery. Please give your bills to Mr. Brydges for 100,000l. on the footing of that agreement so that they may be sent to Holland by this night's post. Disposition Book XXI, p. 51.

William Lowndes to the Navy Commissioners. At the request of the merchants and dealers on the course of the Navy the Treasury Lords consent and agree that sundry tallies and orders as follows remaining in the hands of the Navy Treasurer amounting to 303,790l. 4s. 2d. principal money shall be applied to the Course of the Navy and Victualling; as also that the sum of 24,469l. 10s. 7d. computed by the account as follows to be due for interest to 1710–11 Feb. 28 on the said principal sums shall be applied in aid and towards the further discharge "of the said debts on the Course". My Lords therefore desire you to take care that the said Treasurer of the Navy be duly surcharged in his accounts with the said interest to said date; and that by and out of the said two sums of 24,469l. 10s. 7d. and 303,790l. 4s. 2d. you do assign payment of 328,259l. 14s. 9d. to discharge so much due on the Course of the Navy and Victualling for principal and interest in the several months following (the interest on the bills registered in course being hereby to cease from date hereof): viz.

Feb. 28. William Lowndes [to the Navy Treasurer] relative to the above. At the request of the merchants and dealers on the Course of the Navy my Lords have consented and agreed that sundry tallies and orders in your hands amounting to 303,790l. 4s. 2d. in principal money and also the sum of 24,469l. 10s. 7d. incurred as interest thereupon to date hereof shall be applied to pay the Course of the Navy and Victualling. I am directed to send you a copy of the above letter sent to the Navy Commissioners relating to the manner and method in which the said tallies and orders and interest are to be assigned to the respective Courses. The Treasury Lords order that although the Navy Commissioners and Victualling Commissioners shall, in pursuance of the said letter, assign payment of their bills in Course out of the said tallies and orders and interest, yet you are to take care that none of the said tallies and orders be delivered out in satisfaction of such assignments until you shall receive my Lords' further directions in that behalf, "the said merchants and dealers having submitted to their Lordships' pleasure therein."
And whereas the sum of 9,083l. 12s. 6d. remains in your hands in tallies and orders on the tenth 4s. Aid for the year 1707, which have been for a long time past set apart for the Course of the Navy but ordered not to be assigned or applied thereunto until they could be disposed at par, my Lords (since the said tallies are now transferred to the Land Tax anno 1711) are pleased to direct you to apply the same to the Course of the Navy accordingly, making interest to commence from the 28th inst. upon those of them which were drawn without interest: and my Lords will give warrants to the Exchequer for paying the said interest accordingly, the interest on the bills in Course being to cease from that time.
