of Noah Overing, brewer, shewing that last year he contracted to
brew beer for the Navy "for the first spending" which he accordingly
performed with approbation ; but about the end of last July
the Victualling Commissioners had occasion for a quantity of beer
for the latter spending and petitioner was desired (upon other
persons refusing) to brew the same and accordingly he delivered
300 tuns in 16 days' time but the summer being so very hot made
the water brackish and near one half the said beer proved bad :

mariner, master of the ship Dudley of Boston in New England bound
for London from Barbados but in a storm on Thursday Oct. 4 last

The Queen, by her royal letters dated at Bath 25 Sept. 1702, was
pleased, upon the reduction of the French part of St. Christopher,
to restrain her Governor, Colonel Codrington from granting any part
thereof for a longer period than three years which was adjudged a
sufficient time for raising a product from the conquered part of that
island with due regard to a treaty of peace to be had with the French,
wherein all matters of that nature will be brought under consideration
and the said lands thereupon to remain either to her Majesty's final
disposal thereof to her own subjects or to be restored to the French.
By an instrument under his hand dated 1704 April 29 Col.
Codrington granted the tract of land and appurtenances mentioned
in the petition of William and Richard Clayton for 2½ years. I am
of opinion such grant may be fit to be confirmed by her Majesty and
that a further grant of 2½ years be granted to them whereby they
may be encouraged to continue the improvement of the said plantation
which tends to increase the Customs. The like Instructions as
to Col. Codrington may be given to the present Governor Col. Parks.
Followed by : (1) the abovesaid warrant of Nov. 17 from Treasurer

and passengers do not amount to 8000l. per an. the deficiency shall
be deducted from his last quarter's payment : and that by reason
his first pacquet boat was taken by the enemy and other impediments
of storms etc. there will be a deficiency of [on] the said 8000l. on
Jan. 25 next : therefore praying that what may be deficient may be
charged to the next half year [of his contract] "and the credit of
the last quarter and payment thereof may be confirmed to him
as the preceding three quarters hath and will be, otherwise he

Warrant by Treasurer Godolphin to the Secretary at War to
prepare a royal warrant for paying 70l. to Antonio Manzony for
1d. per milrei on 17,000 milreis at 6s. each, the value of which
Isaac and Jacob Seneor Henriques received in London from John
Howe, Paymaster of Guards and Garrisons, on bills sent to them
from the said Manzoni their correspondent in Lisbon, which bills were
drawn by Ambassador Methuen who promised to pay the said
Manzoni one penny per milrei.

William Lowndes to the Revenue Commissioners of Ireland to
report on the enclosed memorial [missing] of the Lady Letitia Russell
praying a state from you of the debt owing to the Lady Dorchester
out of the quit rents of Ireland "and [a statement] when the same
will be at liberty to pay her pension of 600l. per an. charged thereon."

co. Notts., for his extraordinary charges in his receipt. Disposition
Book XVIII, p. 32.
William Lowndes to the Customs Commissioners enclosing a
schedule [missing] of the debts standing out upon the Duties on coals
and culm from 1698 May 15 to 1703 May 15, showing a total of
debts 16,459l. 4s. 7¼d. The Lord Treasurer takes notice that some
apparent neglect must occasion the greatness of the debt. He
desires you to have the said debt speedily collected and paid into the
Exchequer "the publique being chargeable all this time with an
interest of 8 per cent. to the persons who lent their money on credit
of the said Duties and are not yet repaid the same." Out Letters
