Treasurer Godolphin to the Earl of Galway. Having heard
frequent complaints that the Forces under her Majesty's pay in
Portugal (notwithstanding the recruits sent thither) have been all
along and still are considerably defective of the numbers intended
by the Treaty and which are provided for by the Establishment,
I cannot but observe to you that in all Mr. Fox's memorials the
subsistence for same has been demanded as though they were complete
and the money has been imprested to him accordingly. Further
by all the muster rolls yet returned the respits appear inconsiderable
which makes it very much suspected that her Majesty has paid for
more Troops than have really been effective. Please strictly enquire
into this. Out Letters (General) XVIII, pp. 16-17.

Trustees for Forfeited Estates in Ireland and even of their mother's
marriage settlement for want of appealing to the said Trustees in
due time, so that their case is very deplorable. Out Letters (Ireland)

Companies of his own Regiment were on board cruisers when the
Regiments went to Cadiz from the West Indies these 2 Companies
came to England and were paid here although the Regiment was made
complete by detachments at their going from Spain to the West Indies
whereby the Regiment paid the private men of 14 Companies during
that time : therefore praying an allowance of levy money to the
said Regiments in general and an allowance of pay for the said 2
Companies in his own Regiment in particular for that time.
