William Lowndes to the Navy Commissioners. Certificate by William Lowndes that he was present at a hearing before the Treasury Lords about the 1st Dec. 1698 between John King one of the King's messengers and Richard Poyke and that he took the minutes of the said hearing and that though brabbling words might pass between the said persons he does not remember that Poyke called the said John King's wife a whore: all by reason that the said John King has commenced a suit in the Ecclesiastical Court against Poyke for so speaking of his wife. Dec. 5. Royal warrant dated Kensington to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Thomas Smith of the premises called Buckholt Wood in the east part of Buckholt, now converted into a coney warren and pasture ground and the reversion thereof: in free and common socage: on a fine of 1250l.
Appending: Auditor Parsons' particular and memorandum of the premises and Surveyor General's ratal. The premises were demised to Robert Chaloner 1672 Aug. 13 for 27 years. The Treasury Lords to the Assessment Commissioners for Co. Northumberland. It appears that very little of the sum charged on your County for the present year's Aid has been paid to the Receiver General and that in several places of the two north Wards the warrants have not yet come to the hands of the parochial collectors although by this the third quarterly payment ought to be in the Receiver General's hands. Also there are great arrears on the Duties on Houses and on Marriages for the years 1695–8 which are in danger of being lost and some persons industriously insinuate that those Duties ought not to be longer collected. We recommend these particulars to your care to give order therein so that his Majesty's service may no longer suffer. Treasury warrant to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a particular of a piece of ground containing a large old ruinous barn and some decayed stables near Greenwich Hospital in order to a grant thereof to the Committee for the fabrick of Greenwich Hospital in accordance with the King's pleasure.
Prefixing: said Surveyor General's report on said Committee's petition for same ut supra Tr. Cal. XIV, p. 396. In 1696 this ground was petitioned for by one Odingsell in trust for Visct. Cornbury and about a year since [was petitioned for] by the Earl of Romney as a convenient place for keeping a market at Greenwich. Warrants not Relating to Money XVI, p. 309.

(1) that in the Communication Gallery no carving be made: (2) that in the lodgings of the Lord Chancellor, Lord Jersey, Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord President the wainscot and painting be performed at the cheapest rates: (3) that in the lodgings next the Greenhouse or in any other part of the old buildings no sash windows be made: (4) that in the three pair of stairs straight bars of iron be used and not fine work. Further, in all repairs at Kensington or Hampton Court or other places where the old wainscot or other materials will serve the King is not to be put to the charge of new. Ibid., p. 169.

William Lowndes to Mr. Blathwayt to insert in the list of Officers' widows for the King's bounty the names of Dame — Douglas, widow of Sir Robert Douglas bart. late Colonel of the Royal Regiment of Foot who was slain at the Battle of Steinkirk, and Sarah Gargrave, widow of Capt. We have laid before the King your letter of the 4th inst. informing that the merchants in Ireland have from June 24 last refused the payment of the fees for wool licences, questioning the authority by which the same have been received: and that to prevent the hindrance of trade you have prevailed with them to deposit the said fees under pledge to return same if the King's pleasure be not signified to you before January 1 next.
It is his Majesty's pleasure that the said fees be taken as formerly, the Attorney and Solicitor General being of opinion that the merchants are not exempt by the Act of last session to prevent the exportation of wool from Ireland and England nor does the said Act excuse the exporters from taking licences as before.
