3. Three orders have lately been sent to you requiring you to take notice of three patents which grant near 5,000l. per an. of quit rents to the Countess of Dorchester, Mris. Cheek and Lady Castlehaven: but you have suspended same pending Treasury instruction, and if the orders are to be obeyed you desire that the rents may be collected by the King's officers and not by any private person in the ladies' behalf. You shall speedily receive our direction herein. Meanwhile the King's officers are to continue in the receipt. |
4. As Mr. Coote, counsel to your Board, is shortly to be removed to the Bench, you recommend Sir Richard Leving, Solicitor General, to be your counsel, with 200l. per an. salary, which the Lord Lieutenant has approved of. We think fit the Solicitor General be allowed 200l. in lieu of all fees. |
5. The Council, upon hearing many hard cases of persons kept out of their estates upon account of forfeitures, notwithstanding they were irregularly seized into the King's hands, have issued orders to you to pay money to some and to make allowances out of their estates to others, which by your commission you are not empowered to comply with; you therefore desire when the point comes to be settled that whatsoever money the Government shall be empowered to order (other than what relates to your particular management) may be paid out of the Treasury. As to this last article we think you have done well therein. |

Treasury reference to William Blathwayt of the petition of Capt. John Robinson, shewing that, being in May, 1687, appointed Treasurer of Bermudas by his father, Sir Robert Robinson, late Governor of Bermudas, that he was at great charge in securing their Majesties' part of the silver etc. of a wreck; that he detained 5 per cent. [thereof] in his hand and gave bond in 500l. to restore same if not allowed and that he delivered the rest of said silver, being 1,191 lbs., to Capt. Frowd at Bermudas and further a bag of broken silver, weighing 63 lbs., to the officers of the Mint: that on his return for England about July, 1688, he prayed to be allowed said bag of silver and the delivery of his abovesaid bond, but the Treasury Lords ordered the Mint officers to take possession of said bag and same was accordingly taken from petitioner from on board the Revenge, and by reason of his employment in their Majesties' sea service he has not till now had an opportunity to seek after the same: therefore praying to have said bag of silver delivered to him, and also his bond, “the rather for that your petitioner's accounts have been inspected and allowed by Mr. Blathwayt.” |
