Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the King's Remembrancer to deliver up to Benjamin Polsted and his sureties the bond by him and them formerly entered into for said Polsted's faithful accounting as collector of Lynn port (from which receipt he has been dismissed) : he having paid to the Customs Cashier 1,409l. 13s. 9d., by a tally of Jan. 27 last in full discharge of his debt to the King, as appears by certificate of the 15th inst from Giles Lytcot, Comptroller General of Customs. Privy seal for 4l. a day as ordinary, being an augmentation of 1l. per day to be made to the ordinary of 3l. a day hitherto granted (by the privy seal of 1676, Sept. 20) to John Brisbane as Agent in the Court of France to solicit the affairs of our merchants there : same to be for his encouragement and support therein in regard that his charges therein are extraordinary and the employment itself only temporary and of uncertain continuance, said augmentation to commence from Dec. 19 last, the expiry of his first three months' allowance which [said first three months] began from Sept. 19 aforesaid being the day of his departure from the presence on the said employment. The present privy seal continues the allowance of 100l. a year to said Brisbane for a clerk ; and extras as by bills to be approved by the Secretaries of State. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to deliver to Phillip Jackson 40l. shipped by him and seized by one of the patent searchers at Gravesend, who being entitled by his patent to a moiety of the forfeiture is willing in regard of said Jackson's ignorance to relinquish his interest, petitioner being bred to the trade of an apothecary, and for want of trading, his stock being reduced to that small sum with which he was transporting himself, being his whole subsistence, to try if he could mend his fortune abroad. Same from same to the King's Remembrancer to forbear process against Sir Henry Coker, formerly sheriff of Wilts, for the 570l. arrear on his account of money paid to him by the Deputy Lieutenant of said county as part of a month's assessment for the Militia in said county : all in view of the loyal services, merits and worth of said Coker. Same from same to same to stay process against Sir John Clayton, Kt., surety of Thomas Goddard, late Receiver of Hearthmoney, co. Suffolk : said Clayton alleging that there is sufficient in said Receiver's hands to satisfy his debt. Ibid.
Same from same to the Surveyor General of Crown Lands for a particular and ratal of a tenement with a view to a lease thereof to Thomas Landry : same having been granted to William Landry 3 Car. I, for 99 years or three sons' lives, all lately deceased, petitioner being son of the eldest son.
Prefixing : Said Surveyor General's report on said Landry's petition for same. Premises were valued by the Parliamentary survey at 10l. 12s. 8d. per an. and by Sir Rich. Prideaux at 9l. Advises a fine of 100l. at the old rent of 7l. 10s. 0d. per an. and heriots as in the last lease, with discharge of those now due for such of the last three tenants as died in possession. I have made out a warrant to petitioner to hold the tenement till this lease be passed.

Cornwall, parcel of the manor of Boyton for 99 years terminable on the lives of said Walter Robins and Thomas Curtis and another, same having been demised to Geo. I. : the new lessee to furnish certificates of the deaths of the lives in the said prior lease, whereby the herriots thereof and mean profits since the death of the last tenant may be put in charge : the new grant to take effect proportionable to the yearly value of 8l. whereby the same herriots and mean profits may be levied for the King upon those who ought to answer same : all for 99 years or 3 lives at the old rent of 6s. per an. and a fine of 88l.

Mar. 23. Charles Bertie [to the Navy Commissioners] to assign the payment of 173l. 5s. 0d. to Capt. John Wood for his pay as Capt. of the Bonaventura, out of money in the [Navy Treasurer's] paymaster's hands for payment of captains' wages "unless you have any just acception [exception] to his payment" (struck through). Same to Mr. Maddockes. The bearer hereof, Capt. Williams, has shewed me his ticket amounting to 149l. 14s. 0d. for his service in the Holmes [which ticket is] assigned for payment out of money in your hands for payment of wages. Treasurer Danby desires that this assignment be complied with out of the 3,000l. lately paid you for captains' wages. Ibid, p. 54.

Grant and confirmation by same to Daniel Colwall, of London, gent., of his office as an undersearcher or sub-searcher London port ; he having been thereto appointed by Treasurer Weston, 1632-3, Feb. 20, with all the fees, etc., of Edward Watkins or any other predecessor therein, and having been in arms against the parliament and so his said office requested but same having been restored to him by order of the Treasury Lords of 1660, July 10, and since faithfully executed. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to permit the export of naval stores mentioned in the enclosed paper [missing] being shipped by the Navy Commissioners by direction of the Admiralty Lords on board the ship Hannah, Thomas Stubbs master, for Jamaica, for the use of his Majesty's ship Phnix there. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to Edward Seymour and Samuel Maydwell, Receivers General of the Law duty, thereto appointed as from 1675, Oct. 22. I have lately contracted with Sir John Bendish, Bart., Richard Roffey and John Canham for the farm of said duty from Oct. 23 last. 1677. Mar. 26. Treasurer Danby's subscription of a docquet of a grant to Charles Herbert, Esq., of the office of Clerk of the Supreme Court in the town of St. Iago de la Vega, in the island of Jamaica, with the fees and profits thereof for life : to be executed by himself or deputy immediately in possession if the same be now void, or so soon as same shall become void by the death of Robert Clowes or otherwise : with power to sign writs, enter decrees and keep the records of the said Courts. Charles Bertie to the Customs Cashier to pay in, out of the first money he brings up, and same to the Auditor of the Receipt to issue 400l. for Sir Richd. The Duke of Monmouth has desired Treasurer Danby to give you directions to repair Sir William Armorer's house belonging to the Mews, out of the money designed for repairs in the Mews, and Treasurer Danby directed me to draw a warrant accordingly. I am since informed that the house is already repairing or repaired at said Armorer's own charge, who prays a reimbursement. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to permit the ship William, of Honfleur, James Barbel master, to prosecute her voyage to France without paying the French duty of 5s. per ton, same having been (in her voyage from Newfoundland to France) forced ashore on the coast of Sussex by storm, and so bruised that she could not be repaired without being unladen, and to lighten her and carry away her fish a shallop called the St. John, of Dieppe, was employed, of eight tons burden, whereupon the officers of Chichester demand the 5s. per ton on the burden of said ship William, and have caused the master to deposit 4l. for said duty : the Customs Commissioners having reported on the 1st inst. that they have heard Mr. Papillon on behalf of petitioner, and Giles Lytcot, who manages the collection of said French duty on behalf of Sir B. Gascoigne, and find that the importation of the ship was involuntary, and that the shallop came into port only to take away the damaged goods, and did not lade or unlade any other goods or passengers. Royal warrant for a privy seal for a grant to John Mitton, Gentleman Usher of the King's Privy Chamber (in consideration of his loyalty and good services) of the obligation in 1,000l., bearing date 1675-6, Jan. 25, and the penalty thereon ; same having been entered into by Edmund Warner, of Parham, Suffolk, Esq., with condition not to permit his neices, Katherine and Susanna Warner, daughters of Sir John Warner [the said neices] then abiding with him, or either of them to go beyond sea without the king's licence first obtained, and that he should use his endeavours that they should be educated in the Protestant religion, "which said obligation, we are informed, is forfeited."
