Petition from John Bland, of London, merchant, for allowance of an over entry of white and Muscovado sugars. Referred: to the Customs Farmers. [Ibid. X. p. 305.]
April 25. The memorial of the 20th inst. from the Excise Commissioners, read and entered, certifying the proposals made by Henry Brabant (who with Sir Gilbert Gerard, Sir William Blakston, and William Blackston, Esq., farmed the Excise of co. Durham and Newcastle for three years from 1662, Sept. 29, at the rent of 3,600l. per an.), for the payment of the 2,700l. standing out in arrear on said rent at Lady Day last; and further certifying the said Brabant's proposals for the taking over of the abovesaid farm, together with that of the county of Northumberland and the town of Berwick, for three years from Sept. 29 next, at 4,000l. per an. for the whole. Ordered: allowed of. [Ibid. XII. pp. 155–6.]
Same of same date from same, read and entered, certifying the proposals made by Henry Brabant and Ra Hebburn (who, together with James Ogle, deceased, took the farm of the Excise of Northumberland and Berwick at 1,100l. per an.) for the payment of the arrears due on the said rent, viz. to pay 550l., on condition of 1,000l. being remitted to them for the reasons by them formerly tendered in their petition. [April 25?] The memorial of date 1661, November 6, from the Commissioners for the Arrears of Excise, read and entered, concerning the arrear of 348l. 4s. 1d., standing out at Sept. 29, 1660, on Thomas Ellis, James Powell, John Blount, John Wyat, and Amos Parsons, sometime Sub-Commissioners of Excise for Bristol; and proposing to allow them 98l. 4s. 1d. in regard the excise of a great part of the imported commodities was taken off, whereby their receipts were much lessened. Ordered: allowed of. [Ibid. p. 157.]
Same of the 11th inst. from same, read and entered, concerning the arrear of 23,057l. 14s. 6d., standing out at 1659, August 27, on Esa Risby and Robert Williams, sometime Farmers of Excise in Bristol, and cos. Gloucester and Somerset, as also for the counties of Dorset and Lincoln and Isle of Ely; of which arrear the Commissioners have attempted to fix a third upon said Risby and George Dashwood, being the composition usually set for such arrears, but find that their estates will not bear it, and therefore propose to accept 2,000l. in settlement. Same of the 18th inst. from same, read and entered, concerning the arrear of 94l. 11s. 5d., standing out at 1660, Dec. 25, on James Pearce and John Hutchinson, sometime Sub-Commissioners of Excise in Exeter port; and proposing to allow them 54l. 11s. 5d. in consideration of the fact that one half of the imported excise was taken off.
