"Whereas you have an order for payment of severall services to Tangier and some bills of exchange lately drawn on you which you cannot pay by any present consignements, I am content that you prevaile of 13,000l. out of the monies assigned you from the counties; which you are to make up againe for provision of the stores." Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Receipt to cancel the tally levied July 3 last on Essex Pawlet, Esq., and Richard Dennet, Commissioners appointed to receive the Free and Voluntary Present money from the county of Southampton, being for 490l. upon their receipts of same, which was ordered to be paid to Stephen Fox: which said receipt of the Free and Voluntary Present will not bear the payment of the said sum so that said Mr. Fox cannot receive the same upon the said tally: and in lieu hereof to strike a tally for the like amount on the Customs. Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the auditor of the Receipt for the issue to Sir Thomas Vyner of 10,746l. 3s. 10d. (being 5 ½ per cent. on 190,385l. 7s. 1 ½d. of the late usurper's coin recoined by said Vyner in accordance with the agreement with the King) and 3,988l. 7s. 0d. for consideration of the forbearance of several sums of money advanced by him for the King's service, and 4,717l 14s. 4d. for forbearance of moneys lent by him to the King and for charges and expenses in and about several services for the King without account: making in all 19,451l. 18s. 9d. March 19 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Receipt to strike the following tallies, viz., for 25l. on Thomas Marston, receiver of taxes under the late usurpers in co. Rutland, for three months from 1649, March 25; for 8l. 17s 1d. on Thomas Malbone, treasurer or receiver of the extraordinary tax of decimation under the said usurpers in co. Chester; for 14l. 12s. 0d. on Thomas Whitcombe, receiver or collector of public moneys under the said usurpers in co. Gloucester: being all moneys remaining in their several hands. Ibid, p. 152.

Same from same to same to permit 1,000l. in pieces of eight (which Alderman Backwell has undertaken to advance) to be transported to Bombay for the present supply of the forces there, as by the order of the Privy Council of the 13th inst. Ibid, pp. 154–5.
Appending:—Copy of said order of the King in Council for the despatch of said sum "and that the Lord High Treasurer of England and the Lord Ashley, Chancellor of the Exchequer, likewise write a letter to the President of Surat desiring him to take care that the garrison of Bonne Bay want neither moneys nor necessary provisions to the value of 4,466l.; and what bills of exchange he shall send over charged on their lordships to the value aforesaid shall be accepted and punctually satisfied by them."
Money warrant for 169l. 14s. 9d. to Sir Edw. Griffin, Treasurer of the Chamber, to be by him paid to the Lord Almoner or his deputy for the allowance usually distributed every Maundy Thursday and the Easter following. Ibid, p. 155.

March 19 Money warrant for the amount due to John Archer, Sergeant at Law, for going as judge of assize last summer circuit for the Western counties, July 11 to Aug. 20: the allowance heretofore paid to a Sergeant at Law thus employed as a judge of assize and gaol delivery being 3l. 4s. 8d. a day for the diet charges and expenses of himself, his assistants, servants and horses. March 20 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Farmers of the Customs to observe the warrant of 1660–1, Jan. 5, supra, p. 182, for payment of the Earl of Denbigh's creation money. Ibid, VIII. p. 149.
March 21 Same from same to the Clerk of the Signet attending, for a Privy Seal for 10,000l. to John Harvy, Treasurer and Receiver General of the Queen Consort, for the use of said Queen for and in place of a half-year to Lady Day next on her settlement: the King intending to settle on the Queen 20,000l. per an. out of Crown lands from Michaelmas last, the letters patent for which cannot be so speedily prepared as to allow her to have the benefit of same for the half-year ending Lady Day next. March 24 Same from same to same for a bill to pass the Privy Seal in terms of a draft prefixed for the issue to Edward Davis of the fine of 160l., payable to the King by William Lockyer on a copy of a small living in the manor of Widcombe, parcel of the Duchy of Cornwall: the said Davis's son having been executed at Exeter by the late powers for endeavouring to restore the King. Money warrant for 26l. 6s. 2d. to Anthony Samuell for rent at 1660, Sept. 29, for the town of Kingsthorpe in Northampton-shire and for a mill there, he having purchased said rents from the late usurpers: same being ordered to be repaid him by the letters patent of 1661, May 25. and by the order of the Commissioners for the examination of the late pretended sales of Crown and Church lands. March 24 Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Customs Farmers to grant a certificate according to the [Navigation] Act for Thomas Browne's ship the "St. Michaell." to have the privilege of a ship belonging to England, he having purchased the same before Oct. 1, as the Act therein directed, and having only failed to obtain a certificate to be inserted in the list that was to be transmitted to the Exchequer before December by having been at sea. Same from same to same to pursue a royal warrant, recited, for allowing to Captain Nicholas Millett the abatement of 10 per cent. of the Customs on the landing of the ship "Loyal Merchant," of 5–600 tons and 50 guns, for her first two voyages in accordance with the clause in the late act for establishing the Customs for giving encouragement to such as shall build great ships for strength and service of 300 tons and 30 guns or upwards with two or three decks: said Millett having built the first ship of that burden upon a private account within the King's dominions. Lord Treasurer Southampton and Lord Ashley to Alderman Backwell and the officers of the Mint requesting a certificate both by weight and by tale of the product in English money of so much of the Dunkirk money as has been coined into standard English money: and requiring with regard to the boxes of the said Dunkirk money which were deposited in the hands of several people as securities for loans "that according to the proporcon that the boxes were delivered out for the respective summs of currant money or loanes viz. 19 boxes for each 20,000l. sterling you deliver 20,000l. sterling to the said Mr. Backwell [for every 19 such boxes] to be paid in by him into the Receipt of His Maties Exchequer that soe a perfect accompt may be kept in the Exchequer of what was the true product of the money soe by him received in France and he thereupon may receive a legall and formall discharge. And because it imports His Majesty's service who payes interest all this time for those loans wee require you to hasten the coinage of the said monyes." Ibid, pp. 192–3.

Warrant from Treasurer Southampton to the Clerk of the Signet attending, for a Privy Seal for 2,000l. to Thomas Bushell, who was employed by the late King in several services during the late wars, wherein he laid out several sums of money and procured divers clothes and other necessaries for the late King's army.
