Villiers' Claim to Title of Viscount Purbeck.
Next, the House resumed the Debate concerning the Petitioner's Claim to the Title of Vicecomes Purbeck.
D. of Bucks' Complaint of a seandalous Paper.
But, before the House entered into Consideration of the Matter, the Duke of Bucks complained of a Paper printed and dispersed, wherein are some Things scandalous to the Memory of his Father, and the Honour of his Family: Therefore prayed that the Petitioner that claims the Title of Vicecomes Purbeck may be called in, and asked whether he owns the said Paper or not.
And, after some Debate,
The Question being put, "Whether the Petitioner shall be now called in?"
It was Resolved in the Affirmative.
The Petitioner being at the Bar, the Lord Chancellor (by Directions of the House) commanded the Clerk to shew the Petitioner the Paper.
Which being put into his Hand, his Lordship asked him, "What he had to say concerning that Paper?" To which he answered, "My Lord, I desire your Lordship not to ask me any Questions in it; for I know not how much [my Answer] may be to my own Prejudice."
