Earl of Clare moved the House, to go speak with the Earl of Strafford being in The Tower, about some Business of his own, which was granted.
E of Strafford's Solicitor
Ordered by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in the High Court [ (fn. 1) of Parliament] assembled, That Mr. William Raylton shall be assigned Solicitor for the Earl of Strafford, in his Cause now depending in this High and Honourable Court of Parliament.
Absent Lords excused.
Earl of Peterborough, (fn. 1) being absent, was excused. Earl Marshal was excused for his Absence.
Brewer discharged out of the King's Bench.
The Earl of Dover reported to the House, That the Lords Committees appointed by this Honourable House for examining of all Abuses in Matters of Imprisonment, and also to examine all other Abuses in Courts of Justice, have considered of the Petition of Thomas Brewer, Gentleman, who hath been imprisoned in the King's Bench, and other Prisons, Fourteen Years, whereof Five Years close Prisoner; and do desire that he might be released: Whereupon it was Ordered, That the said Thomas Brewer shall forthwith be discharged of his Imprisonment, giving his own Word for his Forth-coming, and to abide their Lordships Order.
E of Strafford to put in his Answer to the Articles of Impeachment against him.
It was Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in the High Court of Parliament assembled, That the Earl of Strafford should put in his Answer into this Court, to the Impeachment made against him by the House of Commons, by Tuesday next come-sevennight, videlicet, 8 die Decembris 1640, and sooner if he can."
