Upon reading the Petition of Phillip. Cooper, Daughter of Sir John Cooper Knight, deceased; shewing, "That the Earl of Bridgwater owes unto her Two Thousand Pounds, of which she can get no Satisfaction:"

It is Ordered, That the Earl of Bridgwater shall see the Petition, and is desired to give some Satisfaction as may be just.

Smart's Petition.

Upon reading the Petition of Peter Smart: It is Ordered, That it be referred to these Lords following, to consider of the Petition, and peruse the Orders as have been made in this Business, and report the same to the House:

Ld. Lieut. of Ireland going to his Charge.

The Earl of Northumb. acquainted this House, "That the Lord Viscount Lilse, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, hath taken his Leave of the House of Commons; and desires to know whether this House will command him any Thing before he goes for Ireland, he being intended to set forward on Monday next."

Steward and De Franchi.

Ordered, That the Counsel of Walter Steward and Nic. Di Franchi shall attend the Judges, to be heard what they can say concerning the Nature and Use of Appeals, the 18 of February: And in case Nic. Di Franchi nor his Counsel shall not appear at the Time aforesaid, that then the Counsel of Mr. Steward is to be heard; and the Judges to make Report to this House.

E. of Midd's Petition, for a Compensation for his Loss at Millcot, &c.

Upon reading the Petition of the Earl of Midd. shewing, "That his House at Milcott hath been burnt, by the Directions of the Parliament's Forces, to his great Losses: Therefore desires that he may have some Recompence for his great Losses sustained (fn. 1) by adhering to the Parliament:"

It is Ordered, That this Petition be specially recommended to the House of Commons, and desire that they would take the same into speedy Consideration.

Letter from the Commissioners with the King.

"For the Right Honourable the Earl of Manchester, Speaker of the House of Peers pro Tempore. These.

"My Lord,

"We came to Newcastle on Saturday last; and on Monday we sent to the King, that He would be pleased to appoint when we should wait on Him, who assigned us this Day, between Nine and Ten of the Clock in the Morning; at which Time my Lord of Pembrooke signified to His Majesty what we had in Command from the Parliament: Whereupon the King said, "It was a Business of great Concernment; and that He would take some Time to give us an Answer; for He had Queries to make." And a little before we took our Leaves, He said, "He would send for us To-morrow or Thursday." We likewise this Morning, according to our Instructions, signified to the Commissioners and General, who have as yet given us no Answer. We shall speedily give your Lordship a farther Account; and upon all Occasions endeavour to approve ourselves,

Newcastle. 26 Januarii, 1646.

Adjourn.
