I nos. 15, 61-2), and church of St. John, Newport, Lincoln, with 2 half-carucates, and a messuage in High St., and portion of tithes and 1 carucate in Hougham (Lincs.), gr. 'in prebendam' by bp. Alexander 1123 × 45 (R.A.L. II no. 333); (fn. 1) conf. as preb. by pope 6 Feb. 1146 (ibid. no. 252 p. 198) and 5 June 1163 (ibid. no. 255 p. 205). See also Dij/69/2/40, 77/1/11. Perhaps chapl. of bp. Alexander (1123-48) (cf. cart. Thorney II fos. 409v, 410r). First preb., occ. at foundation of this preb., 1123 × 45 (R.A.L. II no. 333; cf. I no. 252 p. 198). Occ. as can. in L.P. I, of c. 1132 (app. 2 no. 33). Subdean by ? c. 1133; last occ. 21 Sept. 1160, and had been succeeded before 19 Apr. 1161; presum. d. Nov. 1160 (list 6). If preb. Leighton Ecclesia was assigned to subdeanery by bp. Alexander, Humphrey presum. transf. from this preb. to Leighton Ecclesia before 25 Feb. 1148 (list 45).
William Turonensis (fn. 2)
Occ. as this preb. c. 1175 × 1180 (R.A.L. IX no. 2422). Does not otherwise occ. Prob. not to be identified with William Tur' who occ. as can. in L.P. I, of ? c. 1132 (app. 2 no. 5; below p. 150), as Humphrey was preb. then (above).
