Answer from the H. C.

Sir Edward Leach and Doctor Heath return with this Answer from the House of Commons:

That the Business concerning Free Trade with Foreign States, they agree that it be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of both Kingdoms; and touching the Papers of the French Resident, they agree to refer it to the Consideration of the Committee that treated with The States Ambassadors, and have appointed them to meet this Afternoon; and that they have given to the Committee Power to call any Persons before them, to examine the Particulars of those Complaints.

Le Cæur's Petition.

Upon reading the Petition of Wm. Le Cæur, Merchant Stranger: It is Ordered, That this Petition is referred to the Consideration of Doctor Aylett, who is to report in Writing the State of the Case on Wednesday next.

North and Conisby.

Upon reading the Petition of Thomas Conisby, Prisoner in The Tower: It is Ordered, That the Lieutenant of The Tower shall bring him to this House on Wednesday next, at which Time the Cause between him (fn. 1) and Captain North is to be heard in this House.

Earl of Denbigh's Complaint against Captain Stone & al. Committees for Stafford.

Ordered, That the Meeting of the Committee concerning the Earl of Denbigh's Complaint against some of the Committee of the County of Stafford shall be deferred until the further Pleasure of this House be signified, his Lordship being to be employed in the Treaty; and that the Witnesses already summoned may not attend until further Directions from this House.

White versus Middleton.

Upon reading the Petition of Ellen White against Symon Middleton, concerning the Estate of Robert Gray, of London, deceased, who died intestate: And it is Ordered, That the Business is left to the Law, and dismissed this House.

Ogle's Petition, to be released upon Bail, and for Leave to go to Holland.

Upon reading the Petition of John Ogle Esquire, a Prisoner in Winchester House, "where he is (fn. 1) in Want of Subsistence, by reason that his Friends are either in The Low Countries or Denmarke; he humbly desires he may have Licence from this House to repair into Holland, there to continue (he being that Countryman) without doing the least Disservice to the State, either directly or indirectly; for which he will put in very good and sufficient Bail, and to be liable himself to such other Penalty as this House shall think fit to impose."

Hereupon it is Ordered, That the said John Ogle shall present to this House the Names of such Persons as he will offer to be his Bail; and then this House will take this Business into further Consideration.

Ordinance to continue the One for Martial Law.

Upon Report from the Committee for the Ordinance for Martial Law, the Opinion of the Committee is, That it is fit that an new Ordinance be drawn.

It is Ordered, That Mr. Serjeant Whitfield, Dr. Aylett, and Dr. Heath, shall prepare an Ordinance for Martial Law, and present (fn. 2) it to this House.

Smith, a Pass.

Ordered, That Ric'd Smith shall have a Pass from this House, to go into Somersettshire, to Mr. Justice Mallett, and return again to London without Interruption.

Adjourn.

House adjourned till 9a cras.
