Upon reading the Petition of the Gentlemen of His Majesty's Chapel, &c.

It is Ordered, To be specially recommended to the House of Commons.

Reynolds' Ordinance to be Dean of Christ Church.

An Ordinance was brought in, for making Mr. Reynolds Collegiate Dean of Christ's Church, in Oxford; and, being read, was approved of, and ordered to be sent to the House of Commons for their Concurrence.

Cox's to be Minister of Middleton.

An Ordinance for making Mr. Cox Minister of Middleton, in the County of Durham, was read, and Agreed to.

Message to the H. C. with there Ordinances and Petition;- with the E. of Northumber.'s Paper about the King's Children;- with the Reports about Gen. Sterling and Marshall;- and about Hawkins.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Doctor Heath and Mr. Hakewill;

To deliver these following Particulars to them, and desire their Concurrence in them:

1. The Order for Mr. Reynolds to be Collegiate Dean of Christ's Church, in Oxford.

2. The Order for Mr. Cox to be Minister of Middleton, in the County Palatine of Durbam.

3. To deliver to them the Paper of the Earl of Northumberland, concerning the Maintenance of the King's Children.

4. To let them know, that this House agrees to the Declaration in Answer to some Scotch Papers delivered in from the Scotch Commissioners.

5. To recommend to them the Petition of the Gentlemen of the King's Chapel, that some Relief may be afforded them, for their Subsistence.

6. To deliver to them the Report concerning Major General Sterling and Major Marshall.

7. To deliver to them the Report concerning Mr. Hawkins to be Commissary General of Provisions for Ireland.

Martin & al. and Worsleys.

Ordered, That Martyn and others, now in the Custody of the Gentleman Usher, attending this House concerning the Business of Worseley, &c. shall be released of their present Restraint; they having given Satisfaction to the Parties.

Hill's Patent to be Master of Trin. Col.

Ordered, That these Words ["during his Natural Life"] shall be added to the Order for granting a Patent to Doctor Hill to be Master of Trynity Colledge, in Cambridge.

Smith and Davis.

Ordered, That the Business between Solomon Smyth and Davis, depending in this House upon the Petition of the said Smyth, is referred to all the Judges, or any Two or more of them, to consider what Relief may be given to the said Smyth in this Case; and have Power to call all Parties before them, and afterwards to make Report thereof to this House.

Message from the H. C. with Orders and an Ordinance.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Rob't Pye Knight; who brought up divers Particulars, wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence:

1. An Order for confirming Mr. Reynolds to be Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford. (Here enter it.)

2. An Order for Mr. Crosse and Mr. Button to be Proctors of the University of Oxon. (Here enter it.)

Chamberlain to be attached, for refusing to serve Sheriff of Oxon.

Ordered, That the Gentleman Usher attending this House shall attach the Body of John Chamberlaine, and bring him forthwith before this House, to answer his Refusal for accepting the Office of High Sheriff of the County of Oxon, being nominated thereunto by Order of both Houses of Parliament.

Gen. Sterling and Marshall's Petition, for their Arrears.

A Petition of Major General Sterling and Lieutenant Colonel Marshall, was read; shewing, "There is due to them Five Thousand Pounds, for their Service to the Parliament; desiring to have some Course taken for the Payment of it:"

It is Ordered, To be sent to the House of Commons; and desired, that there may be a speedy Course taken, that they may have their Arrears paid them, and that some present Maintenance may be allowed them, they being Soldiers of no Fortune.

This Petition was sent down, by Doctor Heath and Mr. Hakewill.

The Answer returned was:

That this House agrees to the Order now brought up, concerning Major General Sterling and Lieutenant Colonel Marshall.

Gill and Hill.

The House this Day heard the Counsel argue the Errors, in the Writ of Error depending in this House, between Nic. Gill Plaintiff and Hill Defendant.

And, upon Consideration thereof, this House Ordered, That the Judgement given in the King's Bench is hereby affirmed.

L. Bruce, a Pass.

Ordered, That the Lord Bruce shall have a Pass, to go beyond the Seas, for Recovery of his Health.

Order for Reynolds to be Vice Chancellor of Oxford, appointed by the E. of Pemb.

"Whereas Phillip Earl of Pembrooke and Mountgom'y, Chancellor of the University of Oxford, hath recommended Edward Reynolds, Master of Arts, to be Vice Chancellor of the said University: The Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament do appoint and establish the said Mr. Reynolds to be Vice Chancellor of the same University, with full Power and Authority to exercise and execute the said Place and Office of Vice Chancellor, according to the Laws of the Land, the Customs and Statutes rightly established of the said University, and to continue in the said Place until August, 1649; and then the usual Course shall be held for the Choice of Vice Chancellor as in former Times."

Order for Mess. Cross and Button to be Proctors there.

"The Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled do appoint and establish Joshua Crosse Master of Arts, and Fellow of Lincolne Colledge, in Oxford, to be Senior Proctor; and Ralph Button Master of Arts, and Fellow of Merton Colledge Junior Proctor, of the University of Oxford; with full Power and Authority to exercise and execute the said Places and Offices of Proctors, according to the Laws of the Land, the Customs and Statutes rightly established of the said University, and to continue in the said Places until the usual Time of Resignation and Election which shall be in the Year 1649; and then the usual Course shall be held for the Choice of Proctors as in former Times."

Commissioners for Assessments in Brecon.

"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That "Edmund Games," named in the Ordinance for raising the Sixty Thousand Pounds, to be One of the Commissioners in the County of Brecknocke, be altered, and made "Edward Games"; and that "John Walbeuf," in the said Ordinance, be made "Charles Walbeuf".

Commissioners for disbanding Forces in South Wales.

"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That Colonel Horton, Sir Richard Phillipps Baronet, Bussey Mansell Esquire, Colonel Edward Prichard, Colonel Thomas Carne, Colonel Phillip Jones, Colonel James Lewes, James Phillipps Esquire, John Price Esquire, all the Sheriffs of South Wales, or any Two of them, be appointed Commissioners, and are hereby authorized, and have full Power, to employ their best Service, in disbanding the Forces appointed to be disbanded in South Wales, according to the former Instructions and Ordinances of Parliament."

Order to sell the Leaden Steeple in Worcester, for rebuilding Alms-houses there, and repairing some Churches in the Neighbourhood.

"Whereas, in these late unhappy Times of War, certain Alms-houses within the City of Worcester have been by the Enemy burnt down to the Ground; the Stock of Money, being above Five Hundred Pounds, given by many Charitable Benefactors for the setting poor People on Work, hath been violently and by Force taken away by the Enemy; Three Churches in the Neighbourhood of the said City burnt and defaced; which Losses do amount to a greater Value than the said City and Places where the said Destruction was are able to repair, in regard of the Decay of Trade in the said City, and the Damage which they and the said Neighbourhood have sustained by the Enemy: All which the Lords and Commons having taken into their Consideration; and being informed that in the Cathedral Church-yard of the said City there is a Steeple, commonly called The Leaden Steeple, not fixed to the said Church, nor employed to any other Use than a Wood-house, the Lead and other Materials of which Steeple are estimated at above Twelve Hundred Pounds; have therefore Ordered and Ordained, and do order and ordain, That the Persons hereafter named, (videlicet,) Robert Styrropp now Mayor of the said City, Edward Elvins and Henry Fourd (Aldermen of the said City), William Moore of All Church, William Collins of Kingsnorton, and Edmond Giles of White Lady Aston, in the said County, Gentlemen, or any Four of them, shall have Power and Authority, and are hereby authorized, to take down and sell the said Steeple, and the Materials thereof, to the best Advantage; and to dispose of the Money raised upon the Sale thereof for re-edifying the said Alms-houses, and making good of the said Stock of Money violently taken away by the Enemy as aforesaid, and for the Repair of the Churches of St. John's in Bedwardine, near adjoining to the said City, and for the Repair of the Churches of Dodderbill and Castle Morton, in the said County (which were burnt as aforesaid): And it is further Ordained, That the said Robert Stirropp, Edward Elvins, Henry Fourd, William Moore, William Collins, and Edmund Gyles, shall give an Account of all their Proceedings herein to the Justices of the Peace of the County aforesaid, at the General Quarter Sessions of the Peace to be holden for the said County next following after the Distribution of the Money as aforesaid."

Gen. Sterling and Marshall freed from their Restraint, and discharged from the Service in Ireland.

"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That Colonel Sterlyng and Major Mershell be forthwith discharged of their Service in Ireland; and that the said Colonel Sterlynge and Major Mershell be likewise forthwith discharged of their Imprisonment or Restraint, and further Attendance here."
