Report from the Admiralty Committee, for a Convoy for the North Sea, &c. Fishery.

The Earl of Warwicke reported a Paper from the Committee of the Lords and Commons for the Admiralty, &c. which was read, as followeth:

"Die Jovis, 17° Die Feb. 1647.

"By the Committee of Lords and Commons for the Admiralty and Cinque Ports.

"Whereas, by an Order of the House of Commons, dated the 8th of this Instant February, the Petition of the Inhabitants of Yarmouth, Lynn, Blakeney, Wells, Alborow, and Southwold, is referred to this Committee's Consideration, the same being for a present Convoy, to guard the Fishing Fleets employed in the North Seas and Island, and to report their Opinions to the House: Ordered, That it be reported to both Houses of Parliament, as the Opinion and Recommendation of this Committee, That, forasmuch as the Safeguard of the said Fishing is of very great Concernment to the whole Kingdom, there may be presently taken up, and employed for the Island Guard, Two Vessels, both bearing not above One Hundred Men in the Whole, over and besides the (fn. 1) Ships agreed upon for the next Summer's Fleet."

Convoy for them.

Ordered, That this House agrees to have Two Ships to guard the Island Fishing, as is in this Report; and that it be sent to the House of Commons for their Concurrence.

Author, &c. of Ecce The New Testament to be apprehended.

A scandalous and blasphemous Pamphlet was brought into this House, intituled "Ecce The New Testament."

It is Ordered, That the Company of Stationers shall make (fn. 2) speedy and diligent Search, to find out the Author, Printer, Publisher, and Seller, of this Pamphlet; and to give an Account to this House concerning the same; and that they attend this House on Tuesday Morning next, to give an Account what they have done concerning the finding out the Author, Printer, and Publisher, of a blasphemous Pamphlet, called "The Ten Comandements," formerly committed to their Care to discover them.

Sp. Ambassador desires Burges's Release.

Upon presenting a Letter from the Spanish Ambassador, concerning the Releasing of Serjeant Major Burges:

It is Ordered, To be committed to the Committee for Foreign Affairs.

Sir J. Maynard at the Bar, and refuses to kneel.

This Day the Lieutenant of The Tower brought Sir John Maynard to the Bar.

And the Speaker, in the Name of the House, commanded him to kneel; which he refused to do.

Then the Speaker told him, "That, this Day being appointed for him to put in his Answer to the Charge of High Treason and other High Crimes and Mis demeanors brought up from the House of Commons against him, their Lordships do now expect him to put in his Answer accordingly; else their Lordships will take his Charge pro Confesso, and will proceed upon it."

Sir John Maynard answered, "That, with all Duty and Respects, he did acknowledge this House to be the Supreme Court of Judicatory; and desired to know what the Charge is against him, and to have a Copy of it under the Clerk's Hand; and that he might have Counsel assigned him."

Then he withdrew.

And the House taking his Desires into Consideration, he was called in again.

And the Speaker told him, "That this House takes his not kneeling as a continued Contempt to this House, and esteems it so; and required him again to kneel."

Sir John Maynard refused again to kneel; saying, "It is a Confession of his Delinquency; and will destroy his Cause; and desired to be pardoned for doing it."

Receives a Copy of his Charge.

Then the Speaker further told him, "That, notwithstanding these, the House allows him a Copy of his Charge, and Fourteen Days to put in his Answer; and will assign him Counsel, when he delivers in their Names: And this was their Lordships meer Favour."

Sir John Maynard desired further Time till after Easter, to answer; and Liberty to go abroad with a Keeper, or else to be bailed: Which the House denied.

Counsel assigned him.

Then he named Mr. Herne, Mr. Hales, Mr. King, and Mr. Walker, to be assigned him for Counsel: Which was granted, and assigned accordingly.

Army Establishment.

The Establishment for the Army, was read, and Agreed to. (Here enter it.)

L. Say, Leave to be absent.

Ordered, That the Lord Viscount Say & Seale shall have (fn. 3) Leave to be absent for Fourteen Days.

Porter's Petition.

Upon reading the Petition of Endymion Porter: It is Ordered, To be sent down to the House of Commons.

Ordinance to prohibit killing Flesh in Lent.

Ordered, That an Ordinance for prohibiting Flesh to be killed in Lent shall be prepared, and brought on Tuesday Morning.

Ly. Wyld and the E. of Pemb.

Ordered, That the Cause of the Lady Wylde and the Earl of Pembrooke shall be heard on Thursday next.

Perry and Gill.

Ordered, That the Writ of Error between Perry and Gill shall be argued on Tuesday next.

Brough and Hunt.

Ordered, That the Writ of Error between Brough and Hunt shall be argued on Tuesday next.

Sir W. Anderson's Petition.

Upon reading the Petition of Sir Wm. Anderson:

It is Ordered, That it be recommended to the House of Commons.

Establishment for the Pay of the Army.

"A List for the Daily and Monthly Pay of the Army under the Command of the Right Honourable Sir Thomas Fairefax Knight; videlicet, of the Officers General of the Field, Officers General of the Horse, and of the Officers General of the Train, of Twelve Regiments of Horse and Fifteen Regiments of Foot with their Officers, and of a Regiment of Dragoons with their Officers; their several Entertainments to begin the Third Day of November, 1647.

"A List of the Daily and Monthly Pay of the Officers, Attendants, and Artificers, belonging to the Train of Artillery; their several Entertainments to begin the Third Day of November, 1647.

"Ex'r."
