Report from the Committee concerning Recusants, &c.
The Lords Sub-committees touching the Petition against Recusants, &c. being returned;
The Lord Archbishop of Cant. reported the Model of a Petition, abridged out of that the Commons desire to be presented to His Majesty, with a short Introduction; and that their Lordships think it fit that the whole Preamble of that Petition be left out, and the Reasons for the said Petition to be conceived apart, and to be delivered if His Majesty shall demand any.
Mr. Attorney read the said Petition Twice; and the House approved the Delivery thereof unto the Commons.
Message to the H. C. for Conference touching Recusants.
Message to the Commons, by Mr. Serjeant Crew and Mr. Serjeant Finch: That whereas their Lordships did Yesterday send unto them, that they did then hope to be ready this Day for a Conference about the Petition to be delivered unto His Majesty, touching Popish Recusants; now they do let them know, that they are ready for that Conference, and desire the same to be presently, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with their Occasions.
Answered: They will attend accordingly.
The Names of those Committees were read; and the Lords Agreed, That, at this Conference, shall be declared to the Commons:
That this House hath not altered the Substance of this Petition from that of theirs; though they have contracted the same, yet it contains in it the whole Effect of the other: That, although their Lordships have left out the Reasons in the Preamble, yet they think fit to have Reasons in a Readiness to be delivered unto His Majesty, if he require any; and for that Purpose, their Lordships have given Power unto their Committee to appoint a Sub-committee, to join with the like of theirs (if they please), to draw up the same.
Report from the Conference.
Their Lordships being returned from this Conference, the Lord Archbishop of Cant. reported what they had declared unto the Commons, as was agreed by the House; and that the Commons had carried the Petition unto their House, and will acquaint their House with their Lordships Desires.
Message from the H. C. Recusants.
