Ld. Stafford's Hand and Seal counter feited.
Thomas Waring's Sentence.
THOMAS Weringes (who was accused for having counterfeited the Lord Stafford's Hand and Seal unto divers Letters of Privileges) as may appear by the 26th of November last), for that Time was given him to produce one Watson, of whom he affirmed he received the said Counterfeit Letters, and could not put in Bail (as was then required), to have his Liberty to produce the said Watson, he remained, by Order of this House, Prisoner in The King's Bench until now, and this Day was brought to the Bar. He confessed at the first, that he did write those Letters of Privilege, but did not counterfeit the Hand and Seal of the Lord Stafford unto the same; and, being withdrawn, and brought to the Bar again, he freely confessed the Counterfeiting of the Hand and Seal also. Whereupon it is Ordered, That he the said Thomas Waringes shall be set on the Pillory in Cheapside, To-morrow Morning, from Ten unto Eleven of the Clock, with Papers on his Head, shewing his Offence, and then to be discharged out of his Imprisonment.
William Warner discharged, paying his Fees.
The Petition of William Warner was read; humbly confessing his Fault, and high Contempt, in the Arrest of James Hutchinson, Servant and Bailiff of the Lord Russell, and desiring to be discharged of his Imprisonment (which he acknowledged to be justly inflicted upon him), without Fees to the Officers, and without Payment of any Charges to the said James Hutchinson: Whereupon it is Ordered, That the said William Warner shall be discharged of his Imprisonment, paying Half Fees to the Officers; but, as touching the Charges of the said James Hutchinson, their Lordships did not determine.
James Kenrick to pay but Thirty-nine Pounds Fees.
The Petition of James Kenrick was read; humbly desiring to be eased of the great Fees which the Serjeant at Arms demands of him both bringing of him and his Two Servants before their Lordships, to answer their Contempt for the Arrest of the Lord Gerrardes Servants: It is Ordered, That he shall pay unto the Serjeant at Arms but Thirty and Nine Pounds.
Committees to examine the Serjeant's Fees.
And it is further Agreed, That whereas the Serjeant at Arms alledgeth his Fee to be Twenty Shillings per Diem, for the bringing up of any Offender, and that the same appears by divers Records; the Lords Sub-committees for Privileges, &c. shall review the said Records, and take such Order for his Fees hereafter as to them shall seem good.
Sir James Cunningham. against the Russia Company, for Artificers Wages.
The Earl of Worwick remembred the House of the Petition of Sir James Cunningham, and the Order thereupon made the Fourth of June last: videlicet, That the Sum of One Hundred Twenty-four Pounds, and Ten Shillings, Part of the said Sir James Conningham's Demands, should be forthwith paid unto certain poor Artificers; and the Consideration of the Residue of the said Petition left to the next Meeting of this Honourable Court.
Artificers Petition.
And his Lordship delivered the Petition of the said poor Artificers (which was read); whereby they shewed, that Seven or Eight of the said poor Artificers have not received any Satisfaction, according to the said Order; and that those which have received any, were forced to be contented, some with the Half, and some with the Third Part of their Due.
Russia Company to pay the Residue of the Money to the Clerk.
Whereupon it is Ordered, That the said Muscovia Company shall forthwith pay unto the Clerk the full Residue of the said One Hundred and Twenty-four Pounds and Ten Shillings, upon the Twentieth of this December; and the Clerk is to pay the same unto the Petitioners, after he hath received it.
Earl of Holdernesse's Privilege.
George Hume released.
George Hume, Servant to the Earl of Holdernes, was (according to the Order made Yesterday) brought before their Lordships, by a Writ of Habeas corpus cum causa; the which being read, he was set at Liberty.
King released.
King also, one of the Under-bailiffs who arrested him, was brought to the Bar, and denied that he knew the said George Hume to be privileged, until he was in Execution. Wherefore he was dismissed, and discharged of any Contempt; yet with an Admonition to be more careful hereafter in the arresting of any Nobleman's Servant.
Adjourn.
Dominus Custos Magni Sigilli declaravit præsens Parliamentum continuandum esse usque in diem crastinum, videlicet, 19m diem instantis Decembris, hora nona, Dominis sic decernentibus.
