Dr. Sacheverel's Trial:
The House adjourned into Westminster Hall, to proceed in the Trial of Doctor Sacheverell.
Where being resumed;
Proclamation was made for Silence, as also for the Prisoner's Appearance.
Then the Lord Chancellor told the Managers, "They might proceed."
And several others of them being heard;
The House was adjourned to the House above.
Where being resumed;
It was moved, "That Mr. Dolben (One of the Managers), who spoke last, and concluded with these Words; (videlicet,) ["Betrayed at Home by such false Brethren as are now at your Lordships Bar,"] might be required to explain his Meaning therein."
And, after Debate,
It was agreed, that the Lord Chancellor should, in the Hall, after reciting the aforesaid Words, speak to him as follows:
"Mr. Dolben,
"This Expression, used by you, being of a general Sense; their Lordships are of Opinion, you should explain your Meaning by those Words."
Then the House again adjourned into Westm'r Hall.
Where being resumed, and Proclamation made for Silence;
Mr. Dolben, One of the Managers, explains Words spoke by him:
The Lord Chancellor spoke to Mr. Dolben as before.
To which he answered,
"My Lords,
"My Meaning, in those Words recited by the Lord Chancellor, was only in relation to the Prisoner at the Bar."
Then, other of the Managers being heard;
The House adjourned to the House above.
Where being resumed;
Ordered, That this House will proceed further in the Trial of Dr. Henry Sacheverell, To-morrow Morning, at Ten a Clock, in Westminster Hall.
Message to H. C. that this House will proceed in the Trial.
And a Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Medlycott and Mr. Fellowes, to acquaint them therewith.
Adjourn.
