Message from H. C. for their Places to be cleared in Westminster Hall.
A Message from the House of Commons, by Mr. Conyers and others; (videlicet,)
The Commons being informed, that several Persons do come into the Place where the Lords do sit in Westm'r Hall, and from thence into the Places appointed for the Members of the House of Commons; they do desire, "That the Lords will order the said Place to be cleared of all Persons."
Answer.
The Commons were called in, and told, "That the Lords have ordered as desired."
Paul versus Sir J. Shaw, in Error.
The Lord Chief Baron of Her Majesty's Court of Exchequer, in the usual Manner, brought up a Writ of Error; (videlicet,)
Will'us Paul Plaintiff, versus Joh'em Shaw, Baronet, Defendant.
Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure.
The House was resumed.
Report from the Committee concerning the Occasion of the Disorders on the Doctor's coming to his Trial.
The House being informed, "That, at the Committee appointed to inquire into the Occasion of the Disorders by Doctor Sacheverell's coming to his Trial, there fell some Words from a Lord at the said Committee, which the Lord in the Chair was ordered to report to the House:"
Then the Lord Mohun reported from the said Committee, "That, at the Examination of Mr. Bendish, the Lord North and Grey used these Words; (videlicet,)
"I do not know but this Gentleman may instruct him what to say."
Hereupon, the Lord being heard to explain himself;
Matter to be examined at the Bar.
The House was moved, "That the Matter of the late Disorders may be examined at the Bar."
Whereupon several Persons were called in, and examined.
And being withdrawn;
Raper et al. to attend.
It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That Raper, Fukeir, Wilson, and Allen, shall and they are hereby required to attend this House immediately upon their Lordships Return from Westm'r Hall; and also that the said Allen bring with him such Person or Persons as can give any Informations relating to the late Riots, and are willing to attend.
Doctor Sacheverel's Trial.
Then the House adjourned into Westm'r Hall, to proceed in the Trial of Doctor Sacheverell.
Where being resumed;
Proclamation was made for Silence, as also for the Prisoner's Appearance.
The Lord Chancellor told the Managers for the House of Commons, "They might proceed."
And One of the Managers, who spoke at the Beginning of the Trial, being again heard;
His Lordship asked them, "If they had gone through with their Charge?"
To which they answered, "They had."
Then his Lordship told the Counsel for Doctor Sacheverell, "They might proceed in their Defence."
But Sir Simon Harcourt acquainting the House, "It would be very long:"
The House adjourned to the House above.
Where being resumed;
Message to H. C. that this House will proceed in the Trial.
Ordered, That this House will proceed further in the Trial of Doctor Henry Sacheverell To-morrow, at Ten a Clock, in Westm'r Hall.
And a Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Medlycott and Mr. Fellowes, to acquaint them therewith.
Adjourn.
